Keep this in mind. When the clutch fan and or waterpump starts to fail on this ford. It will make a loud!! Winding noise and will also make the transmission shift weirdly. I just had this happened and i thought i needed to service my tranee. After replacing the failed clutch fan and waterpump. (ALWAYS REPLACE THEM TOGETHER as they rely heavily on each other. Now the vehicle runs like a champ. No more loud noise and funny shifting. Your info in this video is also very helpful. You can still drive if the clutch fan fails but youll hear that loud noise

THANK U SO MUCH, I thought my transmission was gone but I was trying to look up how only 3rd was missing and it didn’t tell me any info, but when I go to a shop I can explain what’s going on so they don’t scam me lol

Mark, can you give me some advice plz sir? My son's is doing the exact same thing. Same model, same everything as yours. I replaced the pack and it didn't change anything. It does the exact same thing. I didn't know about changing the plate above it though. I would greatly appreciate any advice to save me from putting it in a trans shop.

My 2002 early build 4.0 SOHC 4*4 has a 5r55S or W . Transmission . Lasted 257, 000 miles before it died . My husband serviced it for it's life . Not a bad run . The servo bores were opened up way past tolerance . Everyone hates 3rd and 4th gen Explorers . How did over 3 million get sold ?

Hey Mark, I have a 2005 Explorer Sport Trac 4WD. Same exact symptoms you described, except my code was incorrect 3rd gear ratio. Fluid looks good. Every shop I call doesn’t wanna touch it or wants to rebuild. I’m thinking a valve body? I’m stumped. Been driving with this issue for about 17, 000 clicks now, hasn’t gotten worse at all. It’s extremely annoying.

Wish I could find someone like you. I have a 2007 transmission repaired by another shop. Ran great for couple years and I noticed it didn't like shifting out of first. Found fill plug on bottom loose. Added fluid and now it shifts great except no 5th. Any suggestions?

I have the exact problem when it shifts into third, i also have a problem where any time i shift into reverse it *chunks* and will take a second for the gear to engage, any ideas?

Hey, Mark! We have a 2008 Ford Explorer and we are starting to hear whistle noise while driving under 15 miles. We just had transmission maintenance by Valione. I was taking it back to see if something wasn't tighten and causing this issue. We have no codes showing. This happen after driving on a weekend trip...We drove about 300 miles with no issues. HELP!

Hello I have a 2007 ford explorer 4.0 liter 6 cylinder. 4r55s transmission. I replaced the solenoid block . With new one. The new solenoid block., vehicle revs fine but doesn't engage forward. Has a slight lag when shifter in drive. Anything information would be helpful.

i have a 2007 ford 4.0 6 cylinder code P0745 [PRESSURE CONTROL SELIOND A] 145, 000 miles vechicle is stuck on limp mode first gear doesnt go pass 25 mph .revs up fine runs and drives, when u shift the shifter going through the PRND321 all work fine except no reverse, u can feel the vechicle going through gears; will a refurbished solenoidpack resolve this issue.

I have that exact same model inherited from my deceased father at 72, 000 mi I'm now approaching 139, 536 MI and am starting to experience some slippage especially in third do I need to worry about the servo bore and sleeve or is this the way to go?

I have a 07 ford sport track with a 5r55s trans it had a hard shift so I replaced it with the updated servos now it won't shift out of 1st. I tried to do a manual tcm reset but I couldn't find good Instructions I don't know if it's that or if something went bad. I did alot or studying and talking to people thats why i leaned to the servos, it is a common problem with that trans. Do you think this same problem would keep me stuck in 1st? .... help?

hi sir my 5r55w lost 3 gear How to fix it? i have change a new solenoid pack but the problem is not fix always no 3 gear....

People always trash the pack but what some people dont know is that the pack can be rebuilt in under 10 mins.... the problem is that the pack has 3 bushings that gets stuck and won't release the solenoid and then it sets a code and people goes and spends money on a new pack for nothing....

Hey Mark thanks for the awesome video. I was wondering what the part number for that base plate is. I realise I could take it out and check if warped but if it's cheap I could order that at the same time as the solenoid pack. Have a good day.
