Easy FRP Panel Installation

We wanted to share our Easy FRP Panel Installation. We don't install Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic often - we generally don't like it. That being said, we like doing things well, and we believe in durability. We're building out an all-electric taproom for a craft brewery and needed something durable for the commercial kitchen and at the back bar. The health department required either tile, stainless steel, or FRP. Our clients opted for FRP.

We installed 5 sheets or black FRP the previous week and it was a mess. The glue that our supply house gave us was runny and a total mess. We dialed in our materials and came up with a pretty foolproof system. We went ahead and posted the links to the materials we used. We got everything from either Lowes or Amazon.

We had our Festool track saw + vacuum set up - that's how we made our cuts. We posted a couple links to helpful cutting videos below!

We had a TON of outlets to detail around, as well as irregular corners. Let us know what you think!

I used to do a lot of frp, around 15-20 years ago. I've recently started doing it again. I can't remember how long it took me. I know we tried applying glue to the sheet, but it seemed messy. Working in an area with everything hanging down: HVAC ducts, temporary lights and flex conduit, and sprinkler system, it got on it. Plus grabbing the sheet, even keeping the glue an inch from the edge, it got on my hands and then on the face of the sheet. So I just started flying the walls.

I can hang the sheets, including slipping it into the joint H-channel, all by myself. So, in addition to the mess, it's also a lot heavier and harder to handle by myself with the glue in it. I just lay out where the glue stops to be an inch from the edge and either caulk a line or set the laser on the mark and glue to it.

But, as I said, I can't remember how long it used to take me, and I'm told that I'm going way to slow. So, I'm curious to know what the average time it should take, or does take to install frp per sheet. Do you hang 10 sheets by lunch? That's 2.5 sheets an hour, and 1 sheet every 24 minutes.

I can't do it that fast. By myself I'm getting about 11 sheets a day. This is a restaurant kitchen, so it's pretty heavy on receptacles and pipes. Almost every sheet has at least 1 protrusion. Most have multiple. The height of the sheet isn't that important, but they are 10'.

PS

Electric sheers is the best thing I've found for cutting the sheets down to measurement. And the oscillator is great for cutting the receptacles. Pipes are obvious. But I never cut the receptacles after it's up. I tried it and there was always a problem. Nicked wires, missed boxes, etc.

It would be nice to see how you cut the length of the board

I am building a bathroom in my repair shop. Can you tell me if FRP would be suitable for this? My main concern is the ability to spray the bathroom with soap, and use a hose to rinse. Concentrating on the sink and toilet, but also if there is any dirt on the walls. Thanks

Hello. I have an exterior building on my property which I just insulated and sheetrocked. For the future owner, I'm thinking it can be a garage for a weekend mechanic with a race, or a man cave/she shed. I'm thinking of using FRP instead of spackling and painting the sheetrock as it will handle its environment better. It looks like you can apply this as cold as 40 degrees. This isn't presently a heated building and temps will be well below 40. Will the adhesive crack and lose bonding in low temps?

How to continue the sheet above 8 feet, which piece to use above as transitional piece. Didnt see that . Thanks

I'm thinking about using FRP on the edge of the shower. Would that be ok? It wouldn't be hit by the water directly, it would just be covering up the sheetrock that was removed.

Whats the difference between the .6 and .9 thickness panel? Is one as easy to cut holes as the other?

$80 + a sheet is cheep? And over $70 in glue per 5 or 6 sheets max...?? Pretty damn expensive if you ask me... Tile is more.... but not by a lot.
