How Do Sea Urchins Walk

How Do Sea Urchins Walk
We normally spot sea urchins hanging to one spot on the coral reef. However these little sea hedgehogs need to move at times, and they seem to be pretty quick on their spiny feet.
Their delicate tube like feet are connected to the urchins water vascular system, which creates water pressure allowing their tiny feet to move. This particular urchin was crossing a long sandy patch in the lagoon. The endless sand and little dunes formed by the wave action on the sea bed resembles an underwater desert.

Wow, I never knew sea urchins could move so fluidly. Always thought they were super slow like snails.

I've never seen one crawling about the sea floor like that before. Nicely shot.

Nice video... I like how you keep the camera still and just watch the urchin move. It allows everyone to really see the movement that is lost when your swimming around. Great job!

Very interesting! I had thought that they either rolled along like a ball, or used some sort of foot like a snail does.

Yo thanks so much dude! I had to find out for school how do sea urchins move, and I couldn't find a proper and nicely said answer anywhere. This video really helped me, and not only that, but I've never seen a sea urchin move (and the video is also very relaxing). Really, thank you!

I remember thinking they were sessile as a kid- like a spiny version of an anemone or something that would just sit there and filter feed.

When I saw that sea anemone and clam can actually MOVE, and have some sort of sentience I was so confused. I started wondering what other sea creatures that look static can actually move, and when I heard sea urchins EAT KELP my mind went... "So they also move? How?"

Now I know... the ocean is so weird 😅
