It's usually because of blood pumping through your ears, and the sound reverbs into the shell, making the illusion that the ocean is in the sea shell

That explains why SpongeBob has a shell as his telephone 💀

It’s just the blood rushing through your ear. You’re hearing an echo of your own hearing.

Record an audio on a small device, put the device inside the shell. Hold the shell near your ear and done! You can hear real ocean noises off the shell

**August 14th, 2024**

Today, I visited the sea, and it felt like a mini escape from the routine of everyday life. The moment I stepped onto the sandy beach, I could feel the grains of sand slipping between my toes, warm from the sun. The sky was a brilliant blue, with just a few clouds lazily drifting by, and the ocean stretched out endlessly before me, its waves crashing rhythmically against the shore.

The smell of saltwater mixed with sunscreen filled the air, bringing back memories of past summers. I walked along the water's edge, feeling the cool waves lap at my feet. There’s something calming about the sea, the way it seems to breathe in and out with the tide, almost as if it’s alive and watching over us.

I found a spot close to the water and sat down, letting the sound of the waves and the distant calls of seagulls wash over me. It’s amazing how the sea can make you feel both so small and yet so connected to the world. I spent a while just sitting there, lost in thought, watching the waves roll in and out.

At one point, I went for a swim. The water was refreshing, and as I floated on my back, staring up at the sky, I felt completely free. It's a rare feeling, that kind of peace. The worries and stresses of life seemed to fade away with each passing wave.

As the sun began to set, the sky turned a mix of orange, pink, and purple, reflecting off the water and creating a scene straight out of a painting. I stayed to watch the sunset, marveling at the beauty of it all. There’s something magical about the way the sun sinks into the horizon, leaving behind a trail of color that gradually fades into night.

Leaving the beach was bittersweet. I felt rejuvenated, but also reluctant to go back to the reality that awaited me. Still, the memory of today will stay with me, a reminder of the tranquility that the sea can bring.

I think I'll sleep well tonight, with the sound of the waves still echoing in my mind.

As a person who tried to listen to the ocean from a shell, I now have a new level of appreciation for the phrase "sound waves are tricky little devils"

From what I've seen in an encyclopedia, it says that we basically just hear our blood flowing around the parts near our ear

When I was a kid I thought that it was some kind of phone so I would talk into it thinking I would actually be able to talk to the people on the beach.

It's the sound of the blood rushing through the veins in your ears.
