Never buy on eBay from a seller that does not have a long record of selling to satisfied customers.

Had a similar discussion with some friends this weekend about how horrible their experiences on eBay have been. I was surprised because my own experiences have all been overwhelmingly positive. Somebody once sent me an American shoe size rather than a UK one and that was about it and that was easily sorted out.

As far as I can make out people just need to vet who they buy from. Anybody can sell there. Don't just trust everybody.

I love to see that Lorier Neptune in the thumbnail

Chrono24 ask for confirmation from the buyer, other platforms need to learn to do the same.

Thanks Tim for the warning. I have done a fair about on online purchases and deals in the last year or two. Generally though, I have only done deals with people who can provide references, and often, references from people I know. At first, this was extremely limiting, but once you make a few deals, it works pretty well as the circle of people you know in the watch buying and selling world expands.

Thank you for the advice Tim, much appreciated. It's all too easy to assume that because we are honest people, everyone is honest. Sadly we get reminders first & second hand that this is not the case.

This happens on other platforms. Seller generates a usps label and then alters the label to a different street and number but same city. Usps tracking tracks to the city and then out for delivery, when it scans at the wrong house it shows delivered to the buyer... it's a loophole as it's verified by the scan and not where it actually goes to.
The one way to prove it in the us is to go into usps and have them look at the image of the package and label their system automatically takes during transit. You then can verify the label was altered.

Great video, Tim. “Buy the buyer” is often heard and is good advice. Do look for lots of customer feedback and read their reviews to gauge if the seller is legitimate.

Immediate bank transfer can also be a scam. Some banks will offer immediate confirmation of a transfer, but then you can cancel it later after you've taken the watch and left with it. Again, there is a short time window.

More and more the only option is to buy from an AD or a trusted, established grey market seller. Good video advise

It is unfortunate that humans are not all alike and some will take advantage of an individuals trust.
Greed over morality is a blight of human nature. Something that destroys trust in a fellow human being ☹️

And of course, if you open a package, you should make a video of it.

I see lots of comments here about making sure the seller (on ebay) has lots of feedback and has been trading for a while etc etc - OK fine, but be aware account cloning or hacking is rife on that platform so you may not actually be dealing with the original owner of that account.

Tim, there are a lot of channels where yiu can see only reviews of watches. Your is different and it is great. A lot of watches but also watch related topics. Not to mention other subjects like leather or sketches with ink. This variety of topics is great. Finally - thanks a lot for the warning!

I like to buy from private watch groups, especially if its a paid group or close friends in the hobby, then the buyers and sellers have reputations to uphold, whether its their buy/ sell reps or just online reputations. So far never had any issues. If you can join a good group, that's what I'd recommend. Also no fees to worry about.

Hi Tim. I buy on Amazon and it never fails. The problem with Ebay and similar sites is that you don't know who you are dealing with. It's like what happens with those dating websites: the disappointment arises when the other person never shows up, or even worse, the person does not look anything like the contact photo. ☺Regards from Chile!
