What Does an Engine Control Module ECM Do?

You may have heard of an ECM or Engine Control Module but What Does an Engine Control Module ECM do? An easy way to think of it is that the ECM is the brains that controls the cars brawn. The ECM controls everything the engine does and is able to report back on the health of the engine overall.

I get it but the question is why the F#$@ there is a button in my car for ECM giving me the option to press it but not say what it does

I order one about 2 weeks ago still waiting . I will report on this when I get it and try it there's a lot of bad feedback on this company I'll let a comment when I get it hopefully it within the next 3 weeks . Don't expect to get one shipped in 48 hours like advertised . It better be rebuilt with new capacitors

I hate these damn things so much. Probably been more totally fixable cars sent to a scrap heap because some bastard thought "Ah, I know what this car needs. A COMPUTER!" than all the car crashes, snapped drive shafts and tinworm in all of Christendom.

A box of sparks shouldn't dictate whether the car goes or not. Codes should not decide whether the brakes will work, or the accelerator works, or any other damn thing. The first car company in the modern era that brings out an affordable car that doesn't need one of these bastarding things, will be getting a box of chocolates and some business from me.
