When it happens, it happens fast!
In the aftermath of hurricane Hugo, we were sailing in a race on lake St Claire in a 28’ Sidelman, wing on wing, the wind was opposite the current, we crested a huge swell, the bow went down, stern up, rudders in the air. The boat pitched as it started down the swell and Wham, the mast was laying in the water and main sheet pointed at the bottom! Fortunately everyone stayed within the boat, only lose was the main sheet line, as captain failed to monkey ball the end, once released it sank.
