Welcome back to Fluctus for a feature on the career path of the mariners working in the cargo containership, as well as the perks and challenges of working miles away from the shoreline. And before reaching the shoreline, the vessel often faces another challenge of trying to berth the massive vessel in an unfamiliar harbor that requires external assistance to come on board.

When I was deep sea fishing off the Gulf of Mexico, there was a container ship fully up out of the water (when the containers are on it, it sits down low in the water due to the weight of the cargo), docked in the middle of the ocean. You couldn't see land in any direction. The anchor chain links were the size of a pickup truck. I've never seen anything like it and there were double sets of chains for each anchor. It was like 20 stories high and you could see the water spiraling around it that would have sucked our 75' yacht right under if we got closer than about 20 feet.

This process I know I was hoping for an inside 24 hr activity of the crew. But for those not familiar you did a great insight

2 4 hour shifts, hey that aint that bad! Sounds like a fun job if you're okay with never being in one spot.

So intriguing, undoubtedly an attractive monetary compensation along with the traveling the world enviable opportunity that comes with the job but, I wonder what's the toll it takes on one's lifestyle?, personal relationships? physically also...is it too drastic of an alteration or not really?

Thought that the 'Ice Pilot' disembarking off the ship onto a Platform would have been wearing some class of a Survival suit maybe just a really thick a Full Neoprene wet Suit although it would have limited his mobility somewhat ...but then again if he missed that transit onto the platform, he would have been in freezing Water for quite a while...
