Unfortunately media reports and individuals exaggerated the potential consequences of the Y2K problem, leading to unnecessary fear and panic. Speculative scenarios of catastrophic failures, such as widespread power outages, financial collapses, and the end of the world, were sensationalized, contributing to the perception of overblowing the issue. Consulting companies made a killing on advising companies how to mitigate Y2K, however on most UNIX or Windows systems had no issues as they used int32 or int64 representation of time which in case in int32(represented 2, 147, 483, 647 seconds) meant that had date value interval of 1970-01-01 00:00:00 with a max date+time value of 2038-01-19 03:14:07. Y2K was more crucial on mainframes where in some cases the largest date was 31/12/99 or the years were represented as 00-99 or 00/00/00 meant end of run for batches like payroll etc.
