As people prepare to usher in a new decade, we look back 20 years, when some prepared for the end of life as we know it during the Y2K scare.

I love how only months after this interview, everyone started stocking up again

"People are filling up on gas because of y2k"
"Are you filling up because of y2k?"
"No, I'm not worried at all."

I'm sure he's glad he has all that nowadays and we're still in 2020

Judging by recent events, I wonder whether he re-stocked.

And now in July 2024 we got a small taste of what Y2K was expected to be like with the worldwide Microsoft outage.

He probably saved a ton of money from food price inflation.

Good to see an optimistic story of people post Y2K.
Considering that even by most estimates of how much people spent his setup was on the more modest side, I'm just happy to see that he saw through it like any other day.

Pantries should be stocked all the time especially now if only as a hedge on inflation.

I can remember at the break table at work people really worried a few months before Y2K was to arrive. One guy stocked up on ramen noodles. Some of us not really worried. One girl went to a bomb shelter that night. I wasn't too concerned, I just went home and watched cable tv.

Most stupid

It’s crazy how 2000 people panicked and nothing happened yet people were ringing in 2020 with no worries and Covid happened.

If he was wrong, he could've eaten his mistake.

If everyone else was wrong, what were they going to do, other than panic and starve?

You can mock and laugh now, but that mockery and laughter will only last as long as the supply chain does, let alone supplies.

January 1, 2020 - "The world will be a-ok"
True...but also preparedness isn't crazy, or weird. It's not about the hazards you're afraid of, but making sure you can provide for your needs, regardless of the disruption. Bad things happen sometimes. We usually come out on the other side just fine, but preparing to meet your needs makes going through it a little more tolerable.

So happy he asked “what happened to the food?” in tribute to Larry King’s greatest interview question, but the answer was they had a party and ate it all? What kind of party serves Campbell’s soup, Top Ramen, and canned squash?

To think this will have been 24 years ago in a few days, i cant stress enough the importance of time management and being wise with what you do with your time, im 30 and not in suxh a good situation due to my lack of time management, but im fixing to get things turned around, also being kind to others, you never know what someone might be going through and maybe a kind gesture lifts them up and they can pass it on to someone else in need 😁

Honestly, with all the other news outlests fear mongering and spreading negativity (real or not idc), its nice to see a news channel talk about everything being ok
