Stihl KombiSystem Pole Pruner Attachment Review

As one of the attachments to the Stihl KombiSystem, the pole pruner is one of the most useful. If you have ever used a pole saw, you may have noticed that the electric ones just don't cut it (no pun intended). The pole pruner by Stihl is a gas powered beast. Please research the 3 cut method (shallow undercut 1-2ft from the tree, then top cut, then final cut near the trunk) . This mini chainsaw works like a champ when used correctly. I own one. Do not use it like a weed trimmer. Maintain the chain and the bar and you will have years of easy pruning.

I think the pole pruner attachment is why I'm looking at this system (along with the other cool attachments). I could have used it when the storms came through. My house wasn't his as hard hit as Johns because I live in the middle of town, but still had to wait for my brother to come out from Peck with his big ladder and chainsaw to cut off a split limb about 12 feet up in the back yard. Bay City Light and Power took care of the trees on the street side of the house.

I lucked out and only had one branch break in the back yard and two in front. Being in the middle of town (dean st. couple blocks off midland) most houses where protected due to the density in town. Out of town I saw a barn with the roof ripped off (landing on a tractor) and silo blown over; M-15 by Cass Ave. I was sitting on my front porch for the whole storm as it came from the west hitting the back of the house. Strangest 5 min storm I've ever seen, gotta love Michigan weather.

Best to cut longer/ heavier limbs in sections, this stops tearing/ripping/damage close to tree..

I just picked this up today. Only I did different was, I had them put a 14” bar with the pico chain. I have a 20t bucket saw that has the same bar and chain.

I bought one(HT131) and can not find the backpack harness for it anywhere. Any suggestions?

That polesaw actually works a lot better with a sharpened and properly adjusted chain. The carbide chain lets you cut all day without wasting time fiddling with the chain so much.

Always undercut on the bigger limbs, it's safer and the cut will be better.

You might want to do an undercut on the limbs/boughs prior to the final downward cut.

Hopefully you weren't hit too hard and everyone was safe. It was a very quick and weird storm. I can't believe the damage that was done in that short amount of time.

These things are a joke. A descent manual pole pruning saw works twice as fast with less effort and less expense. Don't believe the hype.
