When performing a barbell back row, nearly all the muscles in your back are engaged. However, grip width plays a key role in targeting specific areas. A shoulder-width grip places more emphasis on the lower portion of the back, including the lats. A medium-width grip shifts the focus to the mid-back, working the upper lats, middle traps, and rhomboids. A wide grip emphasizes the upper back, hitting the middle to upper traps and rear delts.

I think this is the best display of hand placement on the bar, and also showing the person which muscle group is being worked. This is an absolute work of art.

Shorts better is if you matched the colors for grip placement to the muscles they work.

Dude, thank you! Years of lifting and I never really made the connection mentally until I saw this. I always just had to do the movements and try to “feel it” when trying a new movement or variation. Top tier stuff my guy 👌🏾😎

Rowing is an exercise to strengthen the extensors of the humerus (latissimus dorsi, posterior deltoid and teres major), in addition, the extensors of your spine (sacrum spinalis and quadratus lumborum) will benefit. Increasing the distance between your arms will only harm your joints, especially with such a load and position.

I started Mike mentzers consolidated routine and I can't imagine needing any other exercises than squats, palms up Pulldowns, deadlifts, and dips

You forgot to mention that if you want to focus on the lower back you row towards your hips, and if you want to focus on your upper back you row towards your chest. That’s more important than arm positioning, as in this exercise the entire back is getting engaged.

Close grip works on lower back, wider grip on upper back, and medium grip works the middle of the back muscles. 🎯
