If you haven't run the 400m in a competition, even a minor one, you can't really understand how incredible is this world record.

As someone with a PB of 52.8, just thinking of going 10 seconds faster is absolutely insane. Literally 80-90 meters ahead of me. So crazy

I remember Usain Bolt’s jaw drop 😮 reaction to this race while he was waiting in the warm up area for his 100m lol. Wayde is an absolute beast!

How you gonna do this whole video and not mention that he did it from the outside lane?!! Never seen anything like it.

This was the most impressive event at the 2016 Olympics. I remember saying wow, wow, wow through his WR unforgettable performance.

Honestly the difference between their race was Michael Johnson set himself into position because he had a slower field to create a good plan for himself of where to strike. In Wayde’s race, it was much harder mentally for him which created a more positive outcome as well. Running Lane 8 Blindly against a more challenging field that included LaShawn Merritt & Kirani James who had every capability to run people down definitely pushed WVN even more. Basically, HE WAS RUNNING FOR HIS LIFE from START to FINISH

This race was honestly jaw-dropping, i remember watching it and i counted him out from the heats, worse when he got the #8 lane and the guy just got up and ran; no checking back, no overthinking, he just ran to the finish line. Absolutely amazing.

Beast! Lightning struck for this race. Niekerk's performance was other-worldy. Watching the faces of the other runners coming down the home stretch is priceless. Cheers

One of my favourite races! I'm curious to see how well he can recover from his injury. I would love to see him break 43 after everything he's been through 😲!!

Sorry if this seems a bit nitpicky, but you can NOT tell me this mans just said at 1:20 that an opening 100m of 10.70 is "slightly quicker" than MJ's 11.10 100m. That is such an enormous margin within 100m- consider how Wayde Van Niekerk breaking Michael Johnson's WR by .15 was considered extraordinary. Still loved that you covered this iconic race though- it's interesting seeing how WVN and MJ's pacing strategies differed so much.

This was incredible. Wayde seems to be a very underrated athlete, despite his special achievements . This WR will hopefully stand for many years.

An incredible athlete. The man broke my Western Province boys u/19 400m hurdles record which stood for ~10 years. And he doesn't even really 'do' hurdles...
