for the additional cost of a pedal kayak you can buy a GPS controlled trolling motor. which you can use to anchor yourself in one position go on a specific route for up to 4 miles trolling and so much more including reverse and the best part is you can take it to another kayak that is if you're too lazy to paddle

I picked up the pescador after watching your videos. I have enjoyed the information that you've provided.
I wanted to let you know that they have changed the prop mounting bolt sett up. There are two nuts on the back, two on the front of the prop, plus the washers. It looks like someone was watching!

The thing is, I have a pedal Kayak and have no problem because I don't use a propeller, I use Bixpy jets. Faster and less grass to worry about.

I have watched your other videos about the Perception pilot pedal because I just bought one. Good information you're passing out. I appreciate it. I'll be keeping an eye on the propeller slipping.

We have both a 10 Propel Slayer and a Malibu 12 Stealth Paddle. Both are great Kayaks but it is quite obvious that the pedal is much easier to fish with and you can stay out there much longer without killing your back. If you get into very shallow water, you simply lift the drive system and paddle, the same with weedy areas although I can tell you that the Native Propel paddles like a barge. You wouldn't want to do it any longer than necessary.

Very good points. 80% of the time I'm fishing with high grass underneath me

I am a shallow water and grass guy. It would be nice to have the pedal to put distance behind me, but the bulk of my day is spent in 1 - 2 feet. I worry about the weight as well. My current yak is about 75lbs and that is plenty.

I would still get a pedal kayak despite all that said. You can take it on any trip. Also it would eliminate the need to buy more toys and waste less space in your garage or whatever

Most of your points seem to focus on rather specialized cases.
What if you only fish on shallow flats, or in grassy shallows, or a ditch, or have a hurt back? A pedal kayak is just the same as a regular kayak or canoe; it just happens to have this extra propulsion method available. I mean, with most of your initial points, why even argue for any kind of boats at all? Just put on some waders or throw down a lawn chair and forget the boat altogether, right?

Orrrr... you spend a little more initially for a boat that has the ability to do more things and go more places. Yes, a $2000 Hobie is definitely overkill for ditch fishing, but a) unless they had money to burn, who would actually buy such a thing just for that, and b) who wouldn't relish the ability to go other places now that they have the ability to do so? I love canoeing, but really enjoy the thought of being able to lean back and pedal leisurely along quite a bit too.

Also, dude, come on, you're going to make a pricing generalization using Hobie, the most expensive name in the game? Yes, their drives are $800, but you certainly wouldn't have the grassed prop issue you mentioned with theirs, either. Otherwise, prop pedal drives with other vendors are around $200-$400. The angle gearboxes needed to make your own drive from scratch are almost $100 by themselves; I'm down for spending a bit more for a mass-produced mechanism for which I can get replacement parts down the road. :D
