10 Eerie Soviet Relics

The Soviet Union was the biggest ever attempt to create a Utopia, but that attempt failed. The Soviet Union was patently an evil empire, which is one of many reasons it completely collapsed in the 1990s. Member states have since gained independence and moved on. But they still hold strong links to the past. All across the former union states are eerie Soviet relics, remnants of the super-state.

I always wondered why the Russians call their country "The Motherland" while the Germans call theirs "The fatherland" . I wonder why & how they came up with the terms?

It's amazing how the collapse of the Soviet Union happened just a mere 25 years ago. When I think of collapsed civilizations,  I usually associate it with Roman times or the Dark ages, or Victorian Era.

Part of the reason people were nostalgic about the Soviet era was that in the post-Soviet era the Russian economy went to shit. So while the Soviet era featured your typical "life under a dictatorship" hardships, you could at least be assured that whatever profession you were trained for was going to have a job for you, and there were perks in the Soviet Union too. A friend of mine who grew up in the Soviet era told me they actually had state run resorts that everyone was given vacation time and passes to go to. So when an economy collapses and you have physics professors working as mechanics who can't even pay the heating bill, much less go on resort vacations, it's easy to gloss over the political repression and romanticize about the good old days.

You know these buildings and bases and such could be used. I could see them refurbished and restored and used as a secret base or underground fight club or any number of other things for movies. You could turn that Bulgarian one into a crazy cool art museum or even a club if you add higher floors. With the massive amounts of windows on top...

Buzludzha is the best place to visit. Bratskata mogila in Plovdiv Bulgaria is even better. Its much more maintained and even Hellboy 3 scenes are filmed there. Also the very popular song video clip "dreams with you" is filmed there. These sites are perfect for all type of SciFi/Horror films. Even alien VS predator. Or Soviet Union vs predator. Maybe communists are on Mars and prepare to conquer the earth. Like there was movie with NAZIs on the moon. Maybe Soviet union is on the Mars. Thats why is the real reason to call it "The red planet" Musk SpaceX rocket finaly arrive on Mars at 2020. But astronauts find out that soviet secret cosmic program actualy suceeed and Mars have cities with 10 bilion communists population... Advanced spaceships with shape of hammer, sickle and 5 beam stars.
