NASA's Curiosity landing- 1 of her creator's POV

I was able to work on NASA JPL's Curiosity Mars Rover for 7 years. This video is an attempt to capture what it felt like to have 7 years of your life vindicated in the 7 minute landing. Honestly one of the coolest moments of my life so far.

All the pictures of hardware you see in the video are things that I worked on designing or testing or building. I got to work on the Sky Crane for 3-4 years then with some hardware on the Rover itself for the rest. My background in school is Mechanical Engineering.

MUSIC:
-Two songs by Explosions in the Sky- "Your hand in mine" and "First Breath after coma"

Mark is so humble! His "small contribution" only took 7 years! You deserve the whole world!

The first Youtube video which touched me so deeply that I actually got tears in my eyes.
I'm sorry for your mum, Mark. We can only imagine how insanely proud she would have been if she were there with you.
You are an inspiration

This honestly made me feel emotional. All of that time, work, and dedication for all those years, with yet so many setbacks, you lost your mom, but you never gave up your dedication. All of that, and see it pay off after such a long time. Mark Rober, you are more than an engineer.

This video is gut wrenching, especially when touchdown is confirmed and the moments of his life flashing to the beat of the music throughout the whole scene was really gut wrenching, and that one final photo of him and his mom as the music ends is the thing that makes me cry, I hope his mom is in a better place now.

Gosh just watching this made me tear up. I’ve spent the last 7+ years of my life working on NASA’s next manned rocket, the SLS (Space Launch System)...my entire young career and significant portion of my life. I cannot wait for launch day, and in all honesty will be a complete nervous wreck.

I remember watching the live stream as Curiosity touched down on Mars. I was up late making the last finishing touches for my Masters Thesis defense that week, just before I started working in Huntsville, AL on SLS.

Mark hits the nail on the head when he suggests that the people behind the hardware make it all worthwhile. I’ve met some incredible people who share that same passion for learning and experimenting with the hope of accomplishing something really freakin cool...

Congrats Mark for your work on Curiosity, for your entertaining monthly videos, and recent dive into teaching. I share some of the same interests and love sharing it with others. Your mother is proud!

The flash pictures of Marks life is such a cool addition! It makes it feel like the ending to a whole movie. Even tho it’s been a few years now I’m still so proud of Mark and his achievements. Rest in peace Mum Rober ❤️
