As an Australian it’s frustrating our previous government was so anti EV, mocked Elon vs work with him to sell Australia as a secondary manufacturer and mining location with Indonesia. Congrats to the president of Indonesia he has likely secured his countries future if this deal happens 👍

Reasons why Tesla should build their giant factory in Indonesia:
1) Natural Resources: as you said, Indonesia is the no.1 nickel producer. Larger reserves and cheaper raw materials.
2) Human Resources: Indonesia is the 4th largest population in the world (270 million people) that can provide tons of cheap labors (low level, middle level and top level).
3) Markets: Indonesia have more than 145 million used cars in 2022, largest car user in their regions. Which from those 145 millions used car, 1/5 (29 million cars) will be replaced to electric cars. Which means, Indonesia alone have the highest potential market for lithium/battery and cars.

Indonesia is a functioning democracy, with viable elections and President Widodo has a vision for his country that is an excellent chance for his citizens. I do hope both Tesla and SpaceX examine opportunities in Indonesia as part of addressing the need for massive scale. No time to waste. Tesla speed needed.

Congratulations and good luck to Indonesia! I hope this trade brings wealth to your region and the Indonesian people. Love from America to Indonesia.
By the way, I hope A.S.E.A.N. continues to grow and Australia + New Zealand join your union as members someday soon. ASEAN + USA + EU + India, together with our allies across the world, we'll create a peaceful and prosperous future.
Also thank you to Indonesia for standing up for the plight of the Rohingya people in ASEAN. Indonesia's compassion and devotion to humanitarian efforts is being noticed internationally.

Indonesia not only has nickel it also has copper, steel and rubber, though it may have to import lithium from Australia.

vertically integrated removing ton of drama, not to mentions new nickel-based battery that could last 100 years.
The margin number of journeys taken by RAW materials was insane, by Removing “supply chain miles” is probably the most useful aspect of an Indonesian gigafactory. and how to accelerate clean energy is to push down ev price itself.
Even as battery recycling ramps up and gets cheaper, mining for nickel is still going to be a part of the equation.

Elon will not forget how badly some locals have treated him (Tesla), e.g., China shutdowns, German red tape, CA shutdowns, delays. He can't move but he can stop plans to expand. Their loss.

Don't know about primary export facility, but considering the entire region that an Indonesian Gigafactory could export to (Australia, Japan, S. Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, India, the Middle East and Africa ;?) imo it would easily support the export of 2-3 million units a year by the time it's built.

Indonesia is the right place at the right time because of current clean government. Indonesia is the 4th most populous nation with millions of workers. Tesla will be able to gain so much resources with less hussle. Think also about local and regional market. Indonesia is surounded by more than 50% of global population.

Tesla has a deal with Core Lithium which has a lithium project in Northern Territory up toward Darwin. Easy shipping to Indonesia. Indonesia has manganese deposits and there is a manganese mine on an island east of the top knob of Northern Territory. Also easy shipping to Indonesia. Indonesia is working with big companies to become a major supplier of stainless steel.

The only reason for Tesla to go to Indonesia is the Indonesian government's regulations banning export of nickel to overseas nickel refining plants. Every other material going into those battery cells, and into the cars themselves will have to be imported into Indonesia, and then some of the cars will have to be exported overseas. OK, so there are some advantages to being in Indonesia, such as low labour costs, and there is an existing auto manufacturing industry, which explains why Indonesia, not Australia is a preferred location for making batteries and EV's, in spite of Australia also being a source of ore for lithium, cobalt and aluminium as well as nickel and probably other minerals as well. What goes against Australia is our high labour costs here and the death of our auto manufacturing industry thanks to GM, Ford and other industry heavyweights, shutting down their plants in 2017. However, that was under the previous government, and our new government is said to be pro new energy, so who knows, maybe Australia can get a bit of the Tesla action too one day. Maybe we need some draconian law here banning nickel exports. Not likely, of course, but who knows?

Excellent news and excellent prospects for Tesla, Indonesia and the other companies mentioned. All will be winners. If Indonesia additionally facilitates car, nickel and battery export, it would enhance its chances of becoming a world power in this area. We know Telsa will need several more factories to reach its goal of 20 million car per year aspiration, why not one or two of them be on Indonesian soil?
India got too greedy and this time around missed out on a great opportunity even though the business case for a Tesla India is a lot weaker compared to Indonesia.

9:27 hectare = 100 metres X 100 metres. One hundred meters is the distance Carl Lewis ran in the Olympics. One hectare is roughly 2 American football fields placed side by side.

An assembly plant in Indonesia sounds like a good glabal diversification strategy for Tesla. However, their number one supply chain sensitivity is semiconductor fabrication. Tesla has the ability to bring up their own fab and maybe should do so.

Indonesia is leading producer of natural rubber and i suspect Tesla might want to soon produce their own safe Foam or Airless tires.

Great video, I would like to correct 1 point though. Hyundai already made and sold Ionic 5 in Indonesia. So what will happen in the future is that they're going to ramp up production to 250k annually. Not "making electric car".

It certainly would make me feel more comfortable about Tesla future. What I found interesting about this relationship is the mention of SpaceX. Very interesting
