Just a little note: A megawatt-hour is a multiple of the joule and thus should not be written with the division sign, which would be megawatts per hour. Not a big deal, but thought that I would offer that up in case you care. :)

Correction: The purpose of TESLA Megapack is to replace peeker plants. Within 90 days from start to finish, tesla mega pack can purchased and installed for $40 million and replace a peeker plant and predict when the grid will need energy before the grid does preventing a single black out or brown out. Energy is on demand and delivered within milliseconds.

Peeker plants cost between $700M to $900M and takes between 6 & 7 years to build and then needs a lot of maintenance and talk hours to ramp back up with rolling brown outs and black outs.

Quick corretion:
It is MWh and kWh, not MW/h.

Watt is power, power multiplied by time is energy, so, kilowatt x hour = kWh

Please, never divide Megawatts by hours, ok? 7:23

It's not MW/h, it's MWh (unit of energy is a unit of power times unit of time)

using the energy we produce in more or less the same second since we can produce it and not storing it is so mind boggling to me

Wonder why they don't put solar panels over the battery packs? Would think the shade would be good for thr batteries and increase capacity

I think the megapack will serve its purpose so will it will cause competition which is only a good thing

It is MWh and kWh. NOT MW/h or kW/h !!!

So great to see practical (and green) solutions implemented quickly. Very important.
Now the US Government REALLY, REALLY needs to put up the funds to ruggedize the electrical grid against both rolling blackouts and EMP/solar-flare attacks (perfectly practical and not expensive on the amalgamated budget).
Then the US would have a vastly increased probability of withstanding many natural and other disasters without scenarios like occurred in Texas a while back.
It is now obvious that the rapidly increasing frequency of unseasonal and extreme weather events due to climate change is a SERIOUS challenge. We need (globally) to ensure we insure our collective future against this trend.

Thanks for this piece in particular – it’s a big help to be able to explain Tesla’s mission with clear, concise summaries like this one. Good work.

The image @05:01 is not a peaking plant, it is a blast furnace!

Thanks for the technical description of peaker plants. I always thought the main utility had a simple standby generator, but now know better. To replace a peaker plant, a solar (or wind) farm and mega pack is needed.

You're an amazing YouTube channel. Thank you for the high quality content.

u can't do good energy trading without storing the energy

One more step closer to green as we can get technology!!!! Go Tesla Go!!!! Hey, you there on the sidelines. When are you going to get started? There's plenty of business out here for you too.

I would love to have a conversation with Elon, thank you in advance

LFP will solution will be short lived. Sodium Iron batteries are looking at being about 1/4 the price. CATL have move to the production phase for this chemistry...

Put that mega pack where the sun don’t shine! ( sorry I could not resist the childish temptation to troll you ) !

This was a great clear explanation of the mega pack product and opportunity for Tesla to become a utility… with the optional opportunity to also pay us for power individually from power walls and solar panels and sell back power to the grid profitably ( as I understand it is now being offered with consumer authorized software that allows Tesla to access power during peak grid demand ).

The problem with Li-ion batteries for energy storage is the limited number of full cycles. For small amounts of immediate reserve they may make since, but for long term storage there are far better solutions.
