Hey LEGO Maniacs! Today we'll be taking a look at the Lightsaber Duel to come out of the original 1999 wave...

This may be one of the most fairly valued sets to come out of the Star Wars wave, we'll get into both its positives and negatives and see why

Thanks for watching and as always let me know what you'll think? And may the brick be with you... always.

I think this may be the only time we had a set containing two force characters that was less than ten dollars at the time of its release. Numerically, this is also the first ever Star Wars set, though several sets from the Original Trilogy were released a month earlier. The inclusion of a moisture evaporator is somewhat interesting, given that one doesn't appear in this scene of the film. Even so, it does mark the first appearance of the 1x1 angular brick w/ headlight and the 2x2 brick with an axle hole in the center in tan, which are still in use today. The Star Wars theme introduced minifigure hoods as seen on Darth Maul, though that specific version of it was only used until 2010. Darth Maul's speeder marks the first of nine appearances of the 2x3x2 seat piece in tan, though I only had it in two sets from the "Exo-Force" theme (8103 and 8111) in 2007 and '08 respectively before it was retired that same year. The handlebars in the old dark gray also debuted in this set, but were only around until 2004, with their final appearance being the "Coast Watch HQ" (7047) from the "World City" theme that year. That, and the original shade of dark gray was largely phased out after that year, even if it did appear in bulk bricks and education kits until 2017. On the other hand, this set is also the fifth and final set to have the 1x4x3 bar window w/tabs in earth orange (Old brown/Mata Brown), having debuted in the "Imperial Trading Post" set (6277) from the original Pirates theme in 1992. The same piece in the old dark gray debuted as part of the moisture evaporator, but was phased out after appearing in a Discovery Channel set (7467) in 2003.

I remember this was the very first ever Lego Star Wars set I ever bought as a kid, and I bought it mainly because of the lightsabers. Shocking to see the set skyrocket in price!

Yeah, that is pretty good value. I don't see why they didn't just make the bike out of all gray.
