Char Siu is a classic Chinese BBQ pork, famous for its sweet, savoury flavour and glossy red exterior. Traditionally roasted over high heat, this version keeps it simple and home-friendly by using store-bought Char Siu sauce, lean pork tenderloin, and roasting the pork on a rack over a bit of water to prevent burning. There is no basting or glaze—just the marinade doing all the work for that rich, caramelised finish.

Taking Cooking food back to basics.

NOTE: You have to answer all membership questions to join it's fully automated and accept group rules

Ingredients:
• 1 pork tenderloin (about 450 g / 1 lb)
• 1 teaspoon (5 ml / 5 g) light soy sauce (optional, for added savoury depth)
• 1/4 teaspoon (a few drops) red food colouring (optional, for that classic red tint)
• 2–3 tablespoons (30–45 ml) water to pour into the roasting tray

oven to 200°C (fan 180°C) / 400°F.
Roast the pork tenderloin for 15 minutes.
Turn roast another 15 - 20 mins
Target Internal Temp: 63°C (145°F) - will rise to 66 covered.

Perfect! Finally someone who doesn't have to burn the sauce on the pork... and can just let it be sweet, juicy, and full of flavor!!! The name "char siu" doesn't mean you "have" to char it... not everyone likes their sauces burned on top (and yes I know some like that). Until now I was dissuaded from trying this because they all looked burnt to me... and I SO wanted to try it. And I do know that everyone likes things differently... which is fine... but I don't like burnt BBQ sauce or burnt roasted veggies.

That sauce is too expensive here even if you manage to find it... but I found a simple recipe (no cook) that I actually have all the ingredients for... and three pork tenderloins in the freezer just waiting for me to do something with them. One of them will definitely be THIS recipe! Again... thank you, Chef!! I know we are gonna love this!! I really really love you, Chef!!! Shirley in NH 🥰

Imho, this is best served sliced on a ramen dish. Char sui pork is absolutely delicious, and this is a good easy version. Good one Rik :)
