honestly, i could see him being a perfect arch rival to damien wayne. he fixates on damien the way joker fixates on bruce but instead of comedy themed crimes, its family destruction. damien focuses so much on his family (the league of shadows) and then being bruce's son and james really doesnt care about all that so he constantly fights damien.

Gordons gets traumatized, his wife gets killed, his daughter legs get paralyzed, his son turns into a killer...why the writers so keen on ruining Jims life??

James was later used to help find out The Batman who laughs plans as it takes a killer to understand motives, where Jim and his son work on their relationship and Jim telling his son he won’t give up on him.
