The intangible value of finally using a cable or doohickey you’ve been keeping - that’s worth more than this build cost. Priceless!!

I can't get over that the fact that the sentry will be protecting your house.

Meanwhile at my home: Raspberry Pi running FFmpeg to raw copy the security camera output to file.
Just output to TS that way the file can basically not corrupt in the case of a poweroutage.

The top plastic shroud comes off the wraith stealth reducing the height by a few mm without affecting performance. I'm pretty sure it fits in the Sentry 2.0 like that.

Me screaming at the screen,
"NO! you need the L9a!", and
"NO!, the NH-U12A is the new cooler that performs really well, not the U12S. They don't do the U12A in black yet!" lol

All good fun lol

You can take off that plastic AMD ring around the fan. It just clips on & off.

Will there be a part 2? I've always wanted to try a DIY home security system especially with IP cameras. Will you do a tutorial on the software with both IP cameras and usb web cams?

Perfect timing, I have been starting to plan a home surveillance build recently with some old hardware to watch my animals when I'm away.

Sentry is a fitting case name for this, i approve.

Thanks, Paul! I maintain security cameras for work and am really skeptical about the webcams you want to use. I don't think they're going to give you a usable image if you put them in dimly lit locations or outside. Getting an ip camera from Axis Communications, Costar/Arecont, or even Hanwha, might be a good idea in the future.

I see a small form factor build, I click.

You could also use some RPi’s to stream the webcam feed to a central server over wifi instead of using usb hubs and usb extension cables...

Hey Paul, I have a solution for your upside down PSU!!!
I did a Sentry 1.0 build with an EVGA PSU. I assume you mounted the PSU upside down because of the fitment issues with the power jack/toggle switch and the fan grill.

Remove the sticker in the center of the fan grill. That Embossed EVGA logo sticker goes about 1.5mm outside the SFX spec.
For the power jack/toggle switch, 30 seconds with a metal file can thin out the edge of the toggle switch and power jack enough for it to fit.

14:30 the U12s isn't the new one, the new one is the U12A. The U12A has a thiccer heatsink and uses A12x25 fans that aren't yet available in chromax.

Edit: the U12A also has more heatpipes as well as a different heatpipe layout

Literally I was just thinking I needed to do this. Non-cloud, personal admin, etc, brilliant. Thanks for the video!

Paul over here doing things the hard way. You can get a USB 3 to USB 2 adapter. I used one in my old build. Works like a charm, and no drilling required.

10 or 15 years ago this made sense. Now? To the cloud!! Makes this kind of use case so much easier. You don't have to DIY hack everything together yourself guys.

I used an old PC case and built a bare-bones setup that's only job was to keep track of the webcams. I then put the PC in my attic with the largest backup power supply I could find and hid it in a corner that nobody would ever know to look in. I used Chrome Remote desktop to access the comper and make sure it stayed up to date and to access my cameras. I worked really well.
