One last post; I believe the version of dos these would have shipped with was PC-DOS 3.3 (IBM branded MS-DOS 3.3).

Hey man, nice machine! I have a PS/2 model 25 and a model 25/286. Your ram looks to be fully populated, and it's possible it might not count the full 640KB without running the diagnostic disk. I upgraded my PS/2 model 25's 8086 processor to a NEC V30 (it's a very easy upgrade and a good speed boost). I also have a Soundblaster card and an an external SyQuest EZ flyer 160MB hard drive. I may be able to help you with the hard drive interface cable as I have one in each of my computers but only 1 20Mb hard drive, but not until I get an XT-IDE Compact Flash hard drive in one of my units. The diagnostic / setup disk can be downloaded from the Walsh computing website.

For memory expansion to 640K, you'll need to add the last 128K via some chips (four DIP-18 and two DIP16). This requires four 4464-15 or 41464-15 chips and two 4164-15 chips (the -15 is the speed of 150ns; faster speeds will work fine). Jameco has these for a pretty nominal price.

I'm pretty sure that hard drive from the 8550 will not work. The hard drive interface on the 8525 is an XT-IDE connection. Aside from the actual IBM part, a Seagate ST-351a/x will also work (you'd have to mod the power connector since IBM put power into the interface connection). An easier option might be to get one of those lo-tech compact flash adapters. a 1GB flash card is going to be so much more reliable and cost effective than a used old hard drive.
