I got severe adhd diagnosed at 32 years old I can’t multi task or stick to one thing for too long it’s hard work living with adhd at times but ppl with adhd are creative they dream more than others and remember them I can remb certain dreams clips from years ago still to this day … so adhd in a way is a gift you talk to that kid while playing the game and the distraction will confuse them to where they go in a confused state

The school insisted my daughter, a 2nd grader, had ADHD and wanted her medicated so my husband and I call her pediatrician to see what's going on. We explain everything thats been happening and had a paper the school filled out to give him. He said absolutely not, not one of my kids is going on that strong of a medication at this age. This will stunt her brain's ability to be able to regulate it's self properly. He suggested we make and keep to a schedule. Obviously, we agreed but still had the school to deal with so we told them she's taking something and would check-in after one month. Low and behold, one month later they say they see a drastic change in her behavior and focus. I told them the truth after getting the good report and then procedded to tell them in the future if there's a problem let's talk and figure out a solution and leave diagnosing conditions and recommending medications to those equipped to do so, medical professionals.

Definitely agree about seeing a few psychs before deciding medication. As someone who has struggled with ADHD since the age of 8, and someone who has tried various ADHD medications, I’d say it’s definitely better to start with low doses and to be very aware of the potential side effects.

They gave me ritilan in the 70s, I spit them out. I hated school, got a car at 13 and man from the time I woke up till I feel asleep, I just couldn't stop working on that car. Now I'm 1 of the best mechanics you'll ever know. 58 and still at it.

THANK YOU. It’s possible with the right approach to do it without medication. Diagnosed at 12, I’m 40 now no meds ever.

Kids definitely don't need to be put on stuff like Adderall. Most kids put on that type of stuff at a early age end up crashing in their 20s or later on in life.

My kid was having trouble with reading when he was younger. I mean he was struggling bad, and was in 4th grade, but at a 1st grade reading level. He loved video games more than anything. I started getting him books on the video games he was into and within 3 months he was at the reading level he should be at.

The people saying it is okay to be on medication are wrong I'm afraid and trust me, that's coming from someone who had been diagnosed from the age of 5 and put on medication. It has many side effects and none of the medication is worth taking away your personality and the real you because that's what it does. I ended up suicidal on it at a young age and having too much of it caused me to have testicular torsion too. It calms you down yes but wait untill the effects wear off and see what happens. Your brain goes into overload because it needs to catch up and the worst thing is if something has annoyed and angered you while on medication you aren't able to let out that anger but as soon as the effects wear off that anger is multiplied trust me. By alot too, I flipped out countless times. I hate the fact that I will never be normal or beable to do normal things and I wish there was an I between but tablets definitely are not it. I'm 33 so i have tonnes of experience, obviously. I have been on ritalin, dexedrine, methylphenidate, concerta, lisdexamfetamine, dexamfetamine sulphate and atomoxitine. They are all the tablets I have been on. You will realise when you get older, or have been on the medication for as many yrs as i was. I wouldn't recommend it. Yeah it keeps you calm and able to concentrate (when it actually works) but it's not worth the rest of it and the negative impact it has on you. Just trying to give advice so do what you will with that 🤷‍♂️.

I've always wondered how giving a kid amphetamines is supposed to treat their ADHD. And also later in life they develop drug problems and start using methamphetamine.

I was one of the first kids in UK to be offered ritalin for Hyperactivity. My mother said "no thanks" and instead I was put on a special diet and trust me it helped .

A lot of the adhd symptoms are similar to not having enough iron in your diet

I got ADHD. I'm going to tell you right now medication is a lifesaver, but I wouldn't give it to a kid under the age of 16. There are mega seriously strong stimulants
