I'm 63 and only found out I had ADHD a few years ago. I'd love to totally control it, but I will not take drugs. Long bicycle rides and hiking is my therapy.

I am 59 years old and have recently been diagnosed with ADHD. Tomorrow I will start an ADHD medication. I really recognize myself in what you say about ADHD. My life has been very messy so we'll see if it can get a little better with medicine. Keep up with your good work!

I have appreciated these videos so much! We have a 17 year old granddaughter who was diagnosed with ADHD several years ago and I can totally shake my head in affirmation with all of the"myths" you shared about today. Please continue these!

Ours was diagnosed with the non-hyperactive variant of ADD. The lack of the "H" in the diagnosis made things much less stressful and we were lucky in that regard. There is real hope for them. He's a professor in a research university, has achieved a degree of prominence in his field, is an excellent father, and has become extremely socially skilled. He's eccentric, but not too eccentric. We were lucky, but it took work and the appropriate use of prescribed medications (which he didn't need after he was 19). The meds were important when he was a kid, As one example (there are others), without them he would sometimes walk into things. This isn't intended as bragging. It's to let people know that this is not a hopeless situation. Stay with it, keep your fingers crossed, very much try to learn what interests the kid, and do not destroy their self image.

People with adhd have a very hard time getting motivated to exercise. Instead I volunteer on a farm to get my physical activity and it doesn’t feel like exercise because I love it.

I love myth busters! 😘
I think this is one of the biggest problems with getting some people to seek treatment! They don't know what's truth or what's just plain hearsay.
This is why people need to go to a professional instead of listening to people who don't have a clue.
I graduated from high school some decades ago and at that time ADHD was hardly known. How many children were misdiagnosed or given wrong treatment because of little to no knowledge? And this is when the myths start flying.
The better a patient is informed, the better they will do. There aren't a lot of problems that can't be treated these days.
Look at when HIV became a big thing back in the 80's. There were more myths about it than truths. It's a shame we didn't have YouTube back then, or even computers to do valid searches.
But even with all the technology we have today, people don't always take the time to seek the true answer.
That's why it's so beneficial to have people like you! You dispell myths and give us pertinent information! I still think you should be called Super Docs! 😉
Once again you've given us accurate information, a good laugh and a great guest who added significant insight!
You've done it again Super Docs! You've given us the information we need to seek help for true a diagnosis and treatment.
Thanks for sharing another great video! 👍

After teaching for thirty years, I had several ADHD students, but one stands out prominently in my mind. A class of 30 other students couldn’t continue because of him. He was a bright, good looking, and charming young man, but a nightmare to have in class. I don’t know if he was medicated or not, but none of the social norms for a classroom seemed to include him. I often wonder how he turned out.

Wish more of the conversation would have been directed toward adults. Those of us past 50 never heard the word till we were well into adulthood and it’s a bit confusing to think we could have had other options and life made a little easier to figure out.

I've been diagnosed with a rare mental health illness. It's called dsm 5. (Haha) instead of asking what I'm coping with, they ask what don't you have. But today my depression and sadness are kicking in and really I want to thank you for making me laugh whilst being very informative. I think tomorrow I'll open up the dsm and pick a new mental health problem of mine such as my adhd and possibly I'll get something done.

Would love to hear Dr Hierlihy’s opinion on the effect of technology on ADHD symptoms. I suspect the answer is broadly “both good and bad” but I have very limited data to back that up.
