Kolkata Doctor Case | We Are Appealing Top Medical Body's Letter To PM Over Kolkata Horror

The IMA on Saturday sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "benign intervention" to bring a central law to check violence against healthcare personnel and declare hospitals as safe zones with mandatory security entitlements. These are among the demands made by the top doctors' body in the backdrop of the alleged rape and murder of a medic at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata and the subsequent vandalism at the facility.

Nationwide protests emerged after a 31-year-old female doctor was murdered and raped at a medical college in Kolkata last week. According to her father, she went missing for at least seven hours without query from other staff members.

“We are getting a lot of support, but I need justice for my daughter,” the victim’s father told reporters. “I hope the culprit… gets the harshest punishment.”

The suspect’s mother, too, spoke out. Despite saying she would support him, she suggested to reporters that she wished she would have been killed earlier in her life. When asked why, she responded, “I should not have given birth to my son… it is a huge mistake.”
