In a nutshell:

1. Hair loss
It’s normal for a person to lose about 100 hair strands a day.
It may sound too much, but wait until you see clumps of hair on your pillow or in your shower drain.
If this happens, then it could be a sign of bigger health issues, including low iron levels or thyroid disease.

2. Brittle and dry hair
Hair is made up mostly of protein, making it a good diagnostic marker for nutritional deficiencies.
When an adult’s hair looks dry, sparse, and brittle, it can be a sign of an inadequate diet.
Brittle hair can mean a deficit of essential fatty acids, iron, protein, and other nutrients.

3. Unexplained fatigue
One of the common signs of iron deficiency is fatigue.
This can then lead to anemia, which is determined by low levels of red blood cells.
Anemia can also manifest as abnormal paleness.
However, other much severe conditions can also cause excessive fatigue, including depression, thyroid disease, and heart disease.
Lack of magnesium can also cause you to feel extremely tired.

4. Poor night vision
An insufficient amount of vitamin A in the body can lead to a declining night vision.
This can also adversely affect the sharpness of your sight.
That’s because vitamin A deficiency dries the cornea, thus, making the eyes cloudy and can lead to vision loss.
In fact, it can go as far as damage your retina.

5. Bleeding gums
Are bleeding gums a frequent occurrence to you even after brushing and flossing daily?
If so, then you might need to up your vitamin C intake.
That’s because vitamin C plays a crucial role in immunity and wound healing.
Plus, it acts as an antioxidant that helps prevent cell damage.
If you go on with very little vitamin C for long periods, it won’t just be bleeding gums you’ll be dealing with, but also tooth loss.

6. Spoon nails
Don’t underestimate your nails, as they can be early indicators of poor diet.
If your nail curves up from the nail bed like a spoon, hence the name, then you may be anemic.
In other words, you lack iron.

7. Weak and soft bones
Having fragile bones can be a warning sign of vitamin D or calcium deficiency since these two are primarily responsible for promoting bone density.
The truth is, magnesium has a synergistic relationship with calcium.
Therefore, getting enough magnesium is important to optimize the absorption of calcium.
