The Antidote To Anxiety

anxiety can be crippling to my patients inside and outside the operating room. anesthesia and surgery can be powerful triggers to anxiety, but many other stressors in life can also cause anxiety.

curiosity is one of the most powerful antidotes to anxiety, and it's all natural. no medications needed! however, it does take introspection to understand where the anxiety is in your body, how it manifests, and how to identify it! this is where the curiosity comes in. the more curious you are about your body and how it functions, the better able you are to overcome the anxiety.

fighting anxiety is simply a losing battle in most cases, whereas being curious about the anxiety is the way to understand yourself and become a better version of yourself!

this is a core principle in DBT. mindful awareness if how emotions feel in the body since we aren't great at expressing abstract feelings. though for some, this can create a hyper-awareness and lead to health anxiety.

Hi, I wanted to thank you for such informative channel😊 I am faced with an operation to remove brianchial cyst in my neck and possible cancerous growth on my thyroid. I have to say, I am aprehensive about anaesthesia, however after watching your channel content and listening to your great and humorous explanations, I do feel at ease now. We need more Doctors like yourself in this world😊

I’ve always had a bit of nerves with every surgery, but it’s gotten better when I figured out how to keep myself calm. ASK all the questions you have with pre op meeting with your surgeon and anesthesiologist! That really helps when you have your questions answered.
BTW: In another life, I’d definitely choose anesthesiology as my specialty, because it’s soo extremely fascinating & cool!

I sit down and ask myself right what was happening before that's led to me feeling anxious and by the time I've worked that out I've stopped myself from having a full anxiety attack also I just tell myself well what will be will be and just let it go I had to sort it fast as before I started doing this I used to pass out the doctor said its the body's way of saying we'll your not going to calm down so I'll do it for you 😅 listening to your body is the best solution I think for me xxxx

Can you do a VR 360 video with patient point of view camera from pre op to anaesthesia induction and waking up with all sounds, equipment, actual meds to give a realistic feel and provide exposure to people to desensitize using VR headset.

Asking again cause I really really hope for an answer...
I recently had surgery and I was extremely nervous, but I didn't tell anyone. Without really asking me the anesthesiologist gave me some kind of pre-op medication right before they took me to the OR that I think was supposed to calm me down (Like versed or something?) but it just made me feel more terrified because I just felt dizzy and out of control. What should I have done?
