I love it when a plan comes together…..nice job !

I mix mine in the pan. The fluted plastic one-gallon mixing paddles get into the corners. A bucket of water and a brush for cleanup makes life easy.

Something that happens with setting plasters is that the hardened product, if much is left on the sides of the mixing bucket, will accelerate the setting time of the next batch. Apparently the cured gypsum crystals "seed" the mix and make the reaction progress quicker. Another reason to use your great cleaning method!

I've done similar for years but the margin trowel and the cheap paint bucket are great ideas thanks. I was one of those mix it with a paint stick guys 😂

Been doing this for a long time. Thanks for the great tips, especially the margin trowel.

I prefer a coarser scuff pad so it rinses out quicker without loading up the pad. You should consider a bucket trowel. Basically it a large diamond trowel with the point cut off at a right angle to one side. It won’t replace the margin trowel but it can clean out a bucket fast. When I worked with my partner I mixed, cleaned, and moved staging while he mudded the broad joints. One problem with ‘45’ is while you can second coat with smoother ready mix the same day the next mud takes a long time to dry because the chemically set mud is still holding a load of moisture.
