Something you've really got to give props to is how perfectly Harry matches the instrumentals to the original Portal soundtrack. The combination of more traditional and orchestral instruments with synthesizer added along with it gives it that extra Portal feel to it. Listening to one of these instrumentals sounds like your listening to a score from the official soundtrack. Amazing work as always, Harry.

The other day I had an idea. A crazy idea.




Aperture Science Home Ec? The H.E. testing initiative?

I know it sounds crazy, but hear me out! Cooking and baking with Atlas and P-body and maybe some cores as well? It seems a little un-Aperture-y on the surface, but don’t forget about how in Don’t Say Goodbye, GLaDOS talks about baking like she actually knows what she’s doing, and in your animation for Detach the Wheatley Core you can see ovens like what we have on the surface. Ok maybe it is a little ridiculous but I think it could be good, if executed properly, and lord knows that best person for that would be you.

At first I thought it would be best as a game, but now that I’m thinking harder about it, I think it could work as just one of the like 10-minute videos.

Just wanted to put that idea out there. Thanks for reading.

I love the instrumental version of this so much. It's not as though I haven't watched the real version 50 times, but more that without the actual sounds of the Turrets singing, I can notice the small nuances of camera motion on strong downbeats. It's such a subtle nod to how we interpret sight and sound harmoniously. But it's so easy to miss because of how fluid it is. Harry, if you're not already part of a video editting department SOMEWHERE, the world has suffered a loss. Your absolute attention to subtle details is what transforms this from Excellent to as close to Perfect as Source Film Maker can allow.

Next time you watch this (because everyone should multiple times) pay attention to how long Harry pulls the camera back. How seamless he does it at 2:03 when the turrets are aiming, zooming in at the moment it fires and the music hits a strong chordal downbeat. Again at 2:22 with "Un"- der stand, where you zoom in as the turrets open, making them feel like they've swelled across the screen. At 3:01 when the light turns green with a *ding* that you assume for a moment to be from the light, not the background music. It's incredible how much work has been pumped into this video.
