'The Pit Song' is an original Portal song. A rough draft of this song was originally created 3 years ago for the Portal Youtube series 'The Underground'.
It was a darker-themed Machinima and one of the episodes would feature 'The Pit'; where bots are tortured, destroyed, reappropriated, or just left to rot. All lovely fun for the whole family! I was to expand on it for a future episode. The series unfortunately went into indefinite hiatus, so the song was never finished...until now!

3 years later and I finally got around to remaking it using what I've learned over the years. A lot of you wanted this finished, including myself, so I hope you enjoy it! It was a lot of fun to make something darker and creepier. =D

This took about a month of dedicated work; which was initially slowed down a lot because I've had a lot of other large projects to work on these past few months. Got a lot more stuff coming in the coming weeks / months though. ;)

Lyrics:

Robot #22: He failed the turret peer-review.
Robot #24: He died before he hit the floor.
Robot #25: He never made it out alive.
And Robot #29: Died on the assembly-line.

You want to live? Don't hold your breath...
This isn't life, it's living death!
But not to fear, we're most humane...
You'll never be yourself again!

Robot #44: He couldn't take it any more.
Robot #46: The mechanic simply couldn't fix.
Robot #48: He perished from a gruesome fate.
And Robot #49: Simply ran right out of time.

You want to live? Don't hold your breath...
This isn't life, it's living death!
But not to fear, we're most humane...
You'll never be yourself again...

Robot #62: All he ever saw was blue.
Robot #63: Had an invalid serial-key.
Robot #65: He suffered a corrupted drive.
And Robot #67: Found his way into Android Heaven.

You want to live? Don't hold your breath...
This isn't life, it's living death!
But not to fear, we're most humane...
You'll never be yourself again...

These defective droids
All they know
Is how it feels
To be alone!
Beyond repair
They sit and rust
Broken down
Collecting dust!

They never had the chance to prove
What it is they were
Built to do!
Doomed to fail;
The final nail
In the coffin,
Of eternal jail!

You want to live? Don't hold your breath...
This isn't life, it's living death!
But not to fear, we're most humane...
You'll never be yourself again!
You'll never be yourself again!
You'll never be yourself again...

This actually shows just how dark the Portal games are. You play in essentially an abandoned facility with some maniac robots that want to kill you and seemingly endless tests.

The sheer mystery around "he never made it out alive" makes it the most sinister line in the song.

I definitely believe that #62 was a Paradox core.
Designed to speak a paradox in the event of her turning against the humans, sadly it wasn't immune to them either.

All of the lines in this song are sad, but the one that goes "Robot #65, He suffered a corrupted drive." Especially with the other robot, trying to get his ally back.

This is one of the most catchy yet depressing songs I've ever heard.

When you realize GLaDOS made the coop bots to look like chell and wheatly so she can kill them through testing forever. Think about it, one is litterally a blue sphere with legs, wheatly is a blue sphere, the other is tall and lengthy like a human.

This probably has to be the most darkest portal SFM I've ever seen to be honest

The chorus getting louder at "found his way to Android Heaven" really sends shivers down my spine

I'm not one to usually get scared by games or horrors, but that voice... Jesus christ, Harry can make me Sad, Scared and Laugh. Amazing work.

I just realized that the bots believe in places like Heaven and Hell, they have a god, they built a religion. Sentience has reached the point of philosophy and belief in deities. That is simply a mind-blowing thought.

The fact that the personality core during the second refrain had a peace symbol for an eye which then got changed to a crosshair is pretty deep when you think about it.

I like how out of all the broken robots at 2:33, the old aperture turret isn't rusty. The oldest one out of them, has no rust.
2:56 justice for the rocket turret
