About me

Hi, my name is Tina and I'm a data scientist at a FAANG company. I was pre-med studying pharmacology at the University of Toronto until I finally accepted that I would make a terrible doctor. I didn't know what to do with myself so I worked for a year as a research assistant for a bioinformatics lab where I learned how to code and became interested in data science. I then did a masters in computer science (MCIT) at the University of Pennsylvania before ending up at my current job in tech :)

Hey! I’m in tech as well and currently applying to jobs and was a former admission counselor at UC Berkeys Data Science program I would actually suggest having your YouTube up at top with topics you speak on. I have mine in the top section and have gotten SO much good review, it even leads the employers to watching it! Your channel is great and even employers would benefit from seeing it.

Thanks for pointing out the relevance of portfolio projects for startups as against for most big corporate job applications.

Most big corporates don’t really care about your portfolio, they just want a bulky CV.

But guess Startups are the big deal now & people are trying towards working in one, so I guess they’d prioritize building up their projects portfolio alongside their Cv.

Just wondering if it would be possible for you to consider making a video on why you made the big decision to switch tracks from being a pre-med (since you did so well academically) to com science? I'm sure there's a larger audience out there facing similar career dilemmas in their pre-med undergrad, or others thinking of pivoting to com science.
