My New G87 M2 Is Already Broken And BMW Doesn't Want To Fix it

My BMW G87 M2 is the last car I expected to have issues, especially at only 3800 miles! As much as I wanted to try fix this issue myself, I figured I'd take advanatage of the BMW warranty. Sadly that did not work out as planned.

Let me address a very common comment: "Why did you mod the car before taking it in to BMW?" The issue was not as harsh before and I thought bedding in the brakes / braking hard would fix it. Sadly it was only a temporary solution and it would come back. It progressively got worse overtime right in the middle of me modding the car. Didn't think adding some light cosmetic modifications would stop me from getting warranty work done, especially on something that may be totally unrelated to what I installed. Anyways, lesson learned and I hope this video ends up being educational for those that own or are looking to purchase new cars. Regardless if it's BMW or us at our shop, we are going to get the M2 fixed, and I'll you guys. Much love ❤

Exhibit A as to why you don't modify a brand new car with any expectation the warranty will be fulfilled by the dealer. This is why people modify used cars without warranties.

These older bmws are looking ALOT more attractive 😂

It's difficult to complain. Modifying any car will typically void the warranty.

It's an abs sensor. I had a similar problem on one of my vehicles, and It went away after I replaced the ABS sensor. To test this, pull the ABS fuse and test drive it. Hope this helps.

can’t wait to see the results after replacing the brake pads or rotors

Rule #1 never take your car to dealer for warranty with mods, unless you established a relationship with them and they don’t care. Hope m2 gets sorted bro

At this point, this has become personal. I would put the whole thing back to stock then nag and bother them to fix the issue no matter what.

dealers will find any reason to try to void the warranty nowadays it seems: "oh you installed a new spoiler? thats definitely the reason the engine blew up!" sucks that its the new reality that any mods may void the warranty in situations where it really shouldn't.

first batch is always the "beta" cars, always best to wait a year or 2 so they can work out the kinks

BMW service department is always a treat. When I got my 2018 F80 with the carbon ceramic brakes (dealer installed) they called me back because they found brake fluid on the floor of the delivery bay. They gave me a bunch of gift shop goodies to compensate for them almost killing me.

Thats why its always better to buy a car 1-2 years newer since all the issues are usually fixed by then. Pretty dumb how they didnt wana work on the car cause all u did was cosmetics and stuff its not like u tuned it or anything crazy

This sounds like an ABS Wheel Sensor Issue, I had a hella similar feeling and issue when breaking at low speeds. Id check the Wheel Speed Sensors first before anything, probably the cheapest part too

Tldr, if youre gonna buy an M car, keep it oem for like a year 😂

Re-bed your brakes in. And it's common sense that you mod your car like that you give BMW an excuse to void your warranty. You really didn't need a 15 min video on this.

Some say BMW is the ultimate maintenance machine. Thought it breaks after warranty. But it breaks before that and they don’t want to fix it. Unbelievable.

I see where the your service advisor is coming from, BMW hates to touch Aftermarket cause they think every aftermarket item is "shit" so render it out of warranty. But im glad that he told you and is willing to help at least in OEM form

I disagree with the springs and the strut tower brace, they shouldnt have voided your warranty for that as its unrelated. However, the studs and wheel spacer kit is a different story, idk what brand you bought or the quality, but i will say this about them, ive seen wheel spacers cause an out of spec wheel runout, you dont really feel it, and it has to be checked with a dial indicator, and ive seen this problem cause warped rotors, everytime ive out a set on, install the spacer, studs and then use lugnuts or other bolts and tighten then to spec with the wheel off. Then i check the runout and if its out of spec i machine the spacer

As a former bmw technician this is standard procedure.
We need the car factory standard to be approved for warranty, we also need to rule out modifications as cause and prove to bmw warranty, regardless of when the issue began unless reported official complaint previous to mods. If we got audited and bmw found out there were mods then the dealership would be fined for it.
Everyone is just following procedure and doing their jobs, which the technicians time wouldn't be covered unless approved.
It may just be a brake pad (I've seen this on f90s) but if it isn't the dealer pays for the parts and the tech loses his time.
