Rift and Tera had SO much potential. I absolutely loved Rift when it came out!

What sold Wildstar to me was it's movement. It was so, so unbelievably "right" - running, jumping, hoverboards, you name it. I'm still waiting for some private servers to pop up, but it's definitely a gargantuan task, especially considering that it does need further improvement.

6:50 I love that one review just says 'dragon'. Classic Steam review. A+ work.

I feel the deal with Wildstar was that it marketed itself as this fun goofy, spontaneous MMO that had a lot of checklist features!
Professions that had depth, side careers that encouraged your playstyle, jumping puzzles, lore pieces, lots of small hidden areas to explore, a movement system that encouraged platforming, etc. etc.
Though when it came to the endgame was lacking, in fact there wasn't much endgame at all! they were still working on it at the time.

When it finally did get a sizeable endgame however it was a grindy and tedious for no other reason then to service the "Veteran" MMO player, one who liked "Hardcore" raiding or PvP.
A contradiction to all the PR saying it was built from the ground up to let you play how you like!
Getting gear took a while and even after that you still had to socket it with mods and enhance it for it to be useful. On top of its telegraphs which felt bulky and hindering visually in a wide raid setting because you could see your team mates (I think there was a way to turn down the amount of it, but i cannot recall.)

By that time it had lost almost all of it's players. it tried to entice them back with a system similar to a catch up mechanic to get people ready for Redmoon Terror. Yet again, too little too late.
It couldn't really find it's niche, it was having long spells without content, and NCSoft was not happy with the failure to meet expectation. So the plug was pulled.

Visually still one of the best MMO's We've ever gotten. i followed its development like a hawk, i played it's betas, i even found a box copy of it and played before it went free to play!
and a little later down the road i played a dps Medic in the raid tiers that were out and i was barely scraping by to access the first few tiers, and the newest raid was coming out at the time, that being Redmoon Terror.
I want them to use the IP for smaller single player or co-op action games. it's a very in depth world that far surpassed that Saturday morning cartoon aesthetic.

It always gives me a warm smile on my face whenever someone enjoys LotRO. It's my safe haven, my second home for ten years now. The attention to detail and the massive scale of this incredibly well crafted world is impeccable.

Really hope Nixxiom plays a bit more GW2 to see just how massive those events can be. The sheer coordination between players in that game isn't something you see in a normal MMO.

For example:
Triple Trouble. You need *THREE* full raid groups, spread to 3 points in a zone. All 3 raids need to coordinate with each other to kill 3 separate heads of a world boss (yes, this is a world boss. Something that's just a DPS rush in most MMOs) at the same time. Keep in mind, these are pugs.
It blew my mind, the first time I saw this and when it finally clicked with me what was going on. It's been my main MMO, ever since. Absolute best open world content in the genre, and I'll die on this hill.

City of Heroes/Villains is still around in a fan-maintained remake that holds a lot of accuracy to the original. I remember when it and WoW were seen as direct competitors back in 2004-2008 era.

LoTR online has some amazing music at times. Their solo clasical guitar music is amazing.

Did not expect to see DDO on this list. I'm also surprised you said it was "fun", since most people I've heard critique the game say that it isn't. Glad you showed some love to it, though.

6:33 quick note on DDO

alot of quests are locked behind a paywall

but twice a year, (and last month was the most recent) they release a code that unlocks ALL quests for free, forever

so even if u dont intend to play now, if u see this code, make an account, redeem it, and in the future if u ever play. u got em.

now, recent one just ended, but theres still alot of f2p quests to play. and the unlock all for free coupon will be coming around october or november again.

add to that. there is a hardcore server league that happens every 3 months or so that is....well..hardcore, perma death. win major prizes. if u die and u want to keep character, u can xfer them to any non hardcore server!

SWTOR is a great game for the reasons you mentioned, but it also has fun PVP warzones, arenas, and starfighter, which are all unlimited to all players including F2P.

Final Fantasy 11 75 era is the BEST mmo since classic Wow, it's hard, rewarding, and brings back the classic leveling that people loved from WoW. The new Horizonxi server is great, and it's got a booming player base.

This is not a nostalgia opinion, I started this game a month ago and it's the first MMO I've actually been addicted too >:)

Just got myself into BDO again. The game has really changed. You should try it again honesly because the P2W title is a big misconception now

Your basing your review of Warhammer Online off of launch? The game has a thriving community now with updates galore to balance, etc. It would have been cool to see you give Return of Reckoning a try before grading it. Also, no New World?

Man I gotta try LotRO again. I tried like like 11 years ago and didn't like it because it wasn't WoW.
Now I'm a huge LOTR nerd.
