The Problem with Willpower #shorts

"Willpower feels empowering, but it is easily lost through very common things like low blood sugar and stress. For instance, if you try to flip a switch and go directly from eating refined foods like bread, pasta, and desserts to a squeaky clean diet or a prolonged fast, your blood sugar level will be unstable. When it dips, your body will release hunger hormones, making it very hard to resist the temptation to grab something quick to eat..."

I've been eating anything and everything the past 9-10 months, packing on 30 pounds. I need to get back to a low carb way of eating. Good suggestions, Dr. Becky

Planning. Have the right foods set up and at the ready. There's no reason that you should feel hungry as you're starting out. If possible, set up your food - dry goods at least - in a separate area away from the foods of those who are not dieting. Give yourself plenty of stuff to eat. I find that spicy foods and water help me get past a sugar craving. Even if you're gorging on too much of your keto foods, that's still good because it helps you to establish consistency with your chosen foods. Don't count carbs at that point, but simply go for no carbs at all in your food choices with things like pickles, kimchi, salads, hard boiled eggs, sardines, sausages with sauerkraut (just a few examples). Stay away from the borderline low-carb snacks like berries and nuts when you're just starting. Learn to love black coffee if you can.

After 2 years of being on a very carb-lean keto diet, I've incorporated some carbs back into my diet by choice because it was becoming increasingly difficult to avoid foot cramps. In my case, it was too difficult to nail down the cause of the foot cramps and I was taking in plenty of water and electrolytes. So at lunch, I now eat one bowl of whole organic oats with some cinnamon and heavy cream. I buy Bob's Red Mill Organic Extra Thick Rolled Oats and they are quite sustaining with the cinnamon and cream. No need for sugar and it's easy after doing keto for 2 years.

It's basically a keto diet with very select inclusions. No processed foods - no seed oils. Dr. Becky has it nailed. The only other carbs I eat, are in the evening. Along with my salad, I make a shake with 8 oz water & collagen powder, plus 4 oz of plain organic kefir and 4 oz of heavy cream. This makes a 2 cup drink and the kefir does contain about 4 grams of lactose. Mornings are eggs, mushroom, guacamole, arugula and black coffee. So even with the oatmeal and kefir, that's less than 50 g of carbs, and I suppose that's still considered in the range of keto by many.

Have you heard of the guy that ate three McDonald meals daily for 100 days and lost 56 lbs.? He claims to have simply cut each meal portion in half. His blood pressure and lipids both dropped.

Please explain. :P

? For you. Why do almost all Dr's. Say that sugar is THE enemy for everyone? That is just a blanket response. That is profiling people. Not everyone has health problems because of sugar. Take myself for example. I go yearly for my wellness check from my Dr. I am 58, I am 5'6 and weigh 160 lbs. I use 25 lbs. of sugar a month for my sweet tea, I use 4 lbs. salt a month. My Dr immediately told me that I was either going to have diabetes or was pre-diabetic and that I was going to have high blood pressure and high cholesterol. ALL LAB work came back NEGATIVE for it all. I do not workout or diet. I do work on my cattle ranch. I eat red meat and pork daily, I eat 30 lbs. of jalapeños and Serrano peppers and 40 to 50 garlic heads a month. She was amazed and for the last 4 years has different Dr's to "check me out" to see how this is possible. They have studied me for 4 years and do not have any answers. I have NO HEALTH PROBLEMS whatsoever. I just tell them I come from great stock. Who knows.
