I talked to Americans saying that white people should not learn Spanish because that would be cultural appropriation, imagine the shock they got when I explained the existence of the country of Spain

I can't imagine not having heard of any of the countries on earth. Or knowing anyone else who also hasn't. Although there are a few that I might not be able to place correctly, and would get them mixed up with their neighbours easily.

...When I grew up in the US, I didn't know other countries existed until I moved to Sweden at 10. I was confused why people were speaking jibberish until I finally learned to speak it too.
