2011 BMW X6 Right Side Hood Latch Won't Release

This hood on this BMW X6 wouldn't release on the right side. The cable was still connected but the sheathing was not. We were able to go from under the car, pull on the sheathing and then pull the hood release to get it open. But you should be able to go threw the grill with a long hook tool to get it released if the cable is completely disconnected. This is very similar to a X5 and should be able to do the same thing.

took four days to get the side latch.. now i got to get the drivers side to unlatch

To access the driver's side, is it possible to unbolt/unscrew the barrier to the latch?
