If you fully reel the fish in ONLY using right click, you have a small chance to gain bonus resources.
The resource is based on the fish. I *believe* swamp fish drop iron, anglerfish (mistlands) drop soft tissue, etc.

Even easier, use a raft or karve. Longship for ocean. If you can find a lake in the middle of a landmass, even better. Plop down the raft and hop on. Slowly, using the oar only, not the sails, move around the lake or coastline. When you see some fish, stop, stand on the edge of whatever boat you’re using, and just *tap* the cast button. Shouldn’t be more than like a 2-3meter cast, right off the edge of the boat. Wait for fish to bite, then reel em in as usual.
Using this method it’s far easier to catch some of the bigger fish, like level 3-5 fish, the *big* ones. If you’re lucky, you can find some close to shore that you can pull on land, but be careful as the line usually snaps when you try to drag a bigger fish on shore.
For the ocean fish, it’s basically the same tactic, except with the longship or karve, *NOT* the raft. Once you find some cod, tuna or puffer, stop, stand on the edge, make your 2-3 meter cast, and reel in the same way.
Sometimes you’ll get lucky and a fish will just jump right in the boat, all you have to do is pick it up.
Side note: for the Ashlands, you *must* use the drakkar, as *any* other ship will take damage from the hot water of the Ashlands, same as how you can’t swim in Ashlands water.
If going for the fishing hat and venturing to the deep north for that biomes fish, do not explore far. Try to find some obscure corner where you enter the biome, then stop immediately and look for some fish. Any exploration of the landmasses means that when they release the deep north update, it *will not* load in properly.

I never bothered. Finding gold for bait, then trophies for the actual bait needed, then wasting time fishing when you can grow all kinds of vegetables and boar/sausage/wolf meats just deliver themselves to you.. doesn't seem worth it. But if i ever wanted to give it a try, I'd know everything I need from this 👍

Just say no! ...to fishing that is :) but great guide . Im more of a get up at dawn and take a jog down the shore to see what the tide washed up kind of gal.
