ngl after building one of these near a ton of fishes, and watching them all swim away and dissapear from my spot, even after deleting all workbenches and buildings and waiting hours for them to respawn, it's much faster to just catch fish with a pole. I even placed 20 rafts in a line to get more area that fishes could get trapped, all in all i caught maybe 3 fish.

btw, you don't have to use iron cage floors, just use wooden poles on the ocean/lake floor to improve structural integrity, doesn't matter if it doesn't snap with the floor, i just make it go trough the floor and it works just fine.

Great idea.
I was using a less efficiently, but decent alternative, I found a fish spawn in a tiny inlet in Plains. I used my hoe to raise the ground to mostly keep them from getting out into the nearby ocean. I only had to raise the ground with stone in 3 tiles to make a dirt "boardwalk, " that makes it hard for fish to get to the ocean without being beached.
Each time I return after a while I get 3 to 4 fish that are flopping on the "dirt boardwalk, " just just above the water. Even if they get over it into the ocean they swim back and get stuck again.

Nice! It's been bugging me in the back of my brain that there has to be an easy way to construct a fish weir, and this is it. Can't wait to try it. :)

build something similar in the mistlands at a spot with many many angler fishs.
During the building process I catched 3 angler.
After I finished the build the spawns disappeared. (now they are far outside)
I get rid of all workbenches, set up my portal away, but still the spawn seem to be broken by my structure.
I will test this design.

The thing is, this is an actual trap you can do irl too. Specially on flowing rivers.

I built one at a spawn and they just disappeared. I don't think this works as well as it used to.

I've done this in the mistlands. Well not with roofs but just using floors along the shore in this cove with angler/puffers. I'll also park my boat in the middle and they just jump in. I can also cast a line right next to the floor and hook fish with low fishing skill and still catch them with only 80 stamina.

doesn’t work anymore? my fish don’t jump for some reason. I made it 22 meters long, and I clearly see the fish just chilling under the construction 😒

Brilliant idea, i went with spearfishing mod to fish em with ranged weapons personally but this is nice for mod free play.

Fish don't want to jump in, I tried 3 fish farms in 3 different places of Black Forest and I got 1 trollfish that somehow spawned somewhere there or whatever
It doesn't work ;/

There is lazy version of that - drop a bunch of rafts (i have about 15 rafts in mistlands shore, Works the same way.
- No need to follow the water level - always on the surface, not affected by the storm.
- No need to have iron - just move the raft to the water as far as you want, and jump from one raft to another.
- You fell of the raft - easy to climb up with the ladder (with wooden constructions it can be complicated.
I've spent several hours experimenting with different constructions. And then came to this solution....

you could also spam boats, and the fish will jump into the boats, longships work best
