A lot of people seem to misunderstand the significance of this scene. Batman doesn't let superman live just because their mothers' both have the same name he let's him go because when Lois says that Martha is superman's mother it humanisies superman in batman 's eyes. He no longer see him as an alien but as a human being who has lost just as much as he has.

The Martha scene is such a meme, but also such a powerful scene at the same time. I know the significance of that scene, it’s not about them sharing the same mother’s name, it’s about Batman realizing that he was about to become someone he tried so hard to fight, the one who killed his mother. The name Martha was only a trigger, not the whole reason.

3:45 It's very true whenever someone says a name which can mean so much to us, we will be taken back to memories lane, for a moment being the exact person we were in our past. So here, batman after hearing his mom's name became the child who badly misses his mom.
