Nest Thermostat Unboxing and Installation

A couple days ago I got a Nest Thermostat to try out and I liked it so much I got a second one for downstairs too. Basically Nest is an Internet connected smart thermostat that senses when you're around and what temps you like to keep your house at and auto adjusts based on that. You can also at any time set the temp from your phone or computer. I'm lazy so this is so cool to me!

Anyway I thought they did a really great job with the packaging and though I never do unboxings I felt I really needed to do one for this. I'll probably do a review of it soon too if anyone is interested.

Product Info:
Change the temperature from your android device, iPhone or iPad with the free mobile app

Turn it up, turn it down—Nest learns what temperatures you like and programs itself

Nest turns itself to an energy-efficient temperature when you're not home

Every month Nest will email you an Energy Report with info about how much energy you've used and tips to save more

Most people install Nest in 30 minutes or less; if you can install a light fixture, you can install Nest

The Nest Learning Thermostat makes saving energy simple with control over Wi-Fi from your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac. Nest also remembers what temperatures you like and turns itself down when you're away.

Auto-Schedule
Nest creates a personalized schedule based on the temperature changes you've made. All you have to do is get comfortable. It's so simple that 95% of Nests have schedules.

Auto-Away
Nest automatically turns itself to an energy-saving temperature when you're away, so you don't waste energy heating or cooling an empty house.

Remote control
Connect your Nest thermostat to Wi-Fi, download the free Nest Mobile app, and change the temperature from anywhere.

Energy History and Energy Report
See when the heat or AC was on and what affected your energy use. Then check your monthly Energy Report to understand how your energy use changes month-to-month and how you can save more.

Nest Leaf
Nest will show you when you're choosing a temperature that'll help you save. Look for the Leaf every time you turn the ring.

Airwave
Lower your AC bill in the summer with Airwave, which cuts AC runtime automatically when humidity isn't too high—ensuring that you stay cool.

System Match
System Match turns on custom features depending on what heating or cooling system you have. It's perfect for high-efficiency radiant and heat pumps or for forced air systems.

two zone heating/cooling. Upstairs is controlled independently from downstairs, and actually uses different types of heating/cooling too.

my ADT system is also connected to the net so I can do the same but I don't have all the other bells and whistles for it.

I definitely want to get something like this for my house. Just to say I have it. And of course to adjust the heat/air :P

Pretty cool. I have one sort of like it. I have Vivint security system and it's connected to my thermostat, so I can set the alarm and thermostat from my iPhone or home computer. I can also control my lights, but I decided not to go with that option.

I've seen a few reviews on these, and it's a cute (though pricey) idea that could be fun to play with. But I'm not ready for a thermostat that stalks me, knows when I'm around and what I'm doing, and decides what temperature I want. I prefer to be the one who knows MORE than the thermostat, not the other way around. LOL

I think I'll stick with my mufti-programmable Honeywell. It does a fine job, and it can't put itself online and chat about my personal habits with other thermostats. :-P
