In today's video, we will show you how to remove Read-only mode in Word.
Open a Word document you need. Click on 'File' in the top left corner. Click on 'Protect Document' option. Select 'Marl as Final'. Click on the arrow to go back. You can now edit the document.
There's one more option to disable read-only mode. Open a document you need. Click on 'File' at the top left corner. Select 'Save as'. Set the path to save the file. Click on the tiny arrow next to 'Tool' option and select 'General options' from the list. Uncheck 'read-only(recommended)'. Click 'Ok'. Rename the file. Click on 'Save'. Click 'Ok'.

THANK YOU! My MS Word randomly started doing read-only after I closed one document to work on a new one and I didn't know what was going on.

I'm still stuck. I did not put 'protect document' on my file. It did it all by itself and it is visible above the document in the blue strip. If I click on 'File' it does not give me 'Protect' option, and if I go to 'General Options' the box is not ticked. This is not the first time this has happened. How do I fix it?

Sorry to keep repeating what others have said but you do go too fast for us to use this easily. I have to keep rewinding the video back in order to get each step. Part of the process is finding the hidden panes and information and settings hidden within Word. Good content just please slow down on your videos and they will be more helpful to us please. Thanks for posting this however, it's appreciated.

My Word doc does not have the "Read Only Recommended" box checked, but it is still read only. So, there was no way to get rid of its read only status. This video did not help.

And what if in general options the Read-Only option is not checked? Then what is the problem and how do I solve it?

My letter is on OPEN OFFICE and it says it's Read Only. The other letter is untitled and easy to write new words. This guy rushed through it so I have no idea how to release a read only letter.

Just save the file under a new name and it won't be in read only anymore.
