This is a Motormouth couple car review of the Mini Countryman PHEV or plug-in hybrid subcompact SUV. The Mini Cooper SE Countryman ALL4 has a 1.5L turbocharged 3-cylinder engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission and a combined 221 horsepower and 284 lb-ft of torque. It has a 10 kWh battery and up to 29 km/17 miles of EV range, standard AWD.
Total overall range is up to 479 km or 300 miles. The Mini Countryman PHEV comes standard with body-coloured roof and mirror caps, chrome door handles, silver side sills, chrome surround honeycomb grille, LED headlights and LED taillights with the Union Jack design and 18” wheels with runflat tires. Also available a white, black or silver roof and mirror caps. This Mini Countryman plug-in hybrid doesn’t come with a lot of standard features, you get an 8.8” touchscreen, 6-way manual front seats, 6-speaker audio system, power tailgate, power door locks and windows, power side mirrors and push button start. We recommend adding the Premier Package for $9,100 CAD for extra features like a Nappa leather heated steering wheel, panoramic sunroof, heated front seats, rear centre armrest, park distance control park and rear, Harman Kardon sound system, head up display, Apple Carplay, wireless charger, Navigation, 5” digital instrument cluster and black leatherette upholstery. In the US, there is just one model with the Iconic trim included. The Mini Countryman offers about the same front and second row legroom as the BMW X1, but cargo capacity is closer to something like the Hyundai Kona. It has 17.2 cubic feet behind the rear seat and overall cargo capacity is 47.4 cubic feet. The Mini Countryman PHEV earns a combined city/highway rating of 3.2Le/100km, 73 MPGe. With the battery depleted it gets 8L/100 km, 29 MPG combined. With a Level 1 charger, it can charge 0-100% in about 4 hours 20 minutes. With a Level 2 charger, it can charge 0-100% in 1 hour 51 minutes. The Mini Countryman PHEV has a starting price of $44,900 CAD/$46,275 USD
Price as tested, $55,180 CAD.

You guys are just so cute! Many will come to check out the car reviews, but trust me, it is your chemistry that keeps people coming back to your videos even when they don't need the info on cars. Keep the chitchat and banters going!

New Mini offers 3 years of free maintenance. I've had 3 Mini Coopers leased for 4 years, and they were all problem free, with zero costs for maintenance for the first three years each. The third Mini I leased, I bought it out after year 4 when the leasing was up, and now it's going on its 6th year, all problem free. This car makes mundane daily drives going back and forth to work, very enjoyable and fun. Life is too short not to enjoy life, even when going to work. I actually look forward to commuting in the mornings.

I’ve had two Minis with no major problems, and I love the heritage look! ❤ Thanks for such an insightful review! 😊

I think we have the idea for the next video. Can Zack outwalk the EV range of a PHEV?

I’m a big fan of Mini. Full disclosure, my first car was a 2 door 1970 Mini Traveller (van/estate). I love their iconic look. I know many (really 3) repeat buyers. But after warranty…? I would never recommend. Especially with their CVT. They are cute and look expensive, but with BMW parts/maintenance prices… they ought to be. I still love them though. Thanks for the video.

Mini Cooper is super cute and love British racing green 😍 but you know, I’d go with reliable Toyota Corolla Cross in dark green instead 😂 don’t get me wrong, if I were rich I’d love to have a Mini Cooper in my stable, and yea, maybe the Countryman

I had a 2017 CooperS 3 door. The thing I loved the most was the switchgear. The toggle switches were so easy to understand and use. I also loved the nice heavy steering. My gripe about my current GTI is that I find the steering too light. Give me a GTI with toggle switches and MINI handling, and I’d have the perfect car.

We used to own a 2017 C-Max Energi with about 32km of range. It’s more than enough as we’d go months without putting in any gas. With nightly charging and regen, we could easily go 3000+ km on “one tank of gas”. My wife’s commute was 35 km, and she’d make 8 to 10 trips per week. Too bad more PHEVs don’t exist, I think they’re the perfect vehicles.

Thx for another great review. In recent years I have twice looked into buying a Mini, and passed both times. Mini USA does not offer blind-spot monitoring on any model, and as a grandparent that's an essential piece of kit. It is a mystifying decision to me.

"MID" seems to represent this car pretty well 3:00

I'd buy this car just for that side visor alone. Every car on the planet should have that.

Does it have a Depeche Mode? I like them!

Great job guys. I would not touch this vehicle with a ten foot pole. Just too complicated and trust this brand. What were they thinking. Sorry but is not a winner.

Hi Zack & Andrea, I suspect Mini has an exclusivity agreement in place with Apple that’s why still no Android Auto! Remember the car is a symbol of Great Britain not just the English Zack. So the Scot’s are also represented by the Union Jack rear lights! Best Clive

Was really looking forward to the 4 other vehicles to consider.
I want an AWD Phev SUV but don’t need a big vehicle and I want a heat pump so I don’t have to use fuel for 5 months for warmth. It would be good to add that info in PHEV reviews.

It’s just not worth the premium cost of a PHEV if you are having to use the gas engine for 5 months just to get heat.

That EV range is pretty small. If they could double it that would be about perfect. Oh, and I love that color!
