I'd weld a pair of L-shaped steel plate brackets either side of the outlet to protect it from bumps, far enough away either side to get your gloved hand around the fitting with some wiggle room, perhaps 6 inches in between. The brackets could an inch wide on the foot, with the tail about 6 inches long and 4 inches deep.

I'm with you on everything being too low or too short for tall people. I'm 6'3", well after 58 yrs I'm now 6'2", and counters too short, many mirrors and don't get me started on shovels, rakes and other implements of destruction.

Those air fittings are called "push to connect fittings" just in case anyone is interested in getting them. They work great.

I've used a garden hose hanger for air hoses. - Looks like the ol' lawn mower could use some air, while you've got the hose handy. She's got the left-side lean going.

Retractable hose reels, on outside and inside. Easy to keep hoses clean, wipe down as they are retracting when too dirtied up.

mount a retractable hose reel outside. If you don’t want to drill into the side of the shop you can build a stand for it. Just run a short hose from the wall block to the stand.

You would have loved our air station Cody. Right next to the garage door. On either side of the concrete apron outside of the garage, there was pipe with 3 connectors. front middle and rear. With the lengths of hose we had we could conceivably have changed all four tires at once. Dad's hearing was going bad, and he didn't want to risk any further damage. So we actually made an insulated structure to go around the air compressor. Then some nogoodniks stole our air tools. I told some guys at my favorite pawn shop what happened. And they gave me a milk crate full of air tools that they couldn't sell. Renewed my faith in humanity.

Tractor Supply hose hangers. They're basically like a metal wheel fender so your hose doesn't kink. Powder coated or galvanized.

We used retractable airline hose reels in our place without fail.
They can be as big and as small as you like, they all have a ratchet so they can lock at a certain length and then with a sharp pull return home.

A professional homeowner would feel just a little more professional with a retractable line!
