Muslims and athiests once again use this passage to prove that it’s brutal act but in reality, it is an act of mercy because that woman is free to go if she doesn’t want to marry him but she does the man has to honor her and give her the status of a wife and the shaving of her head and nails is a sign of mourning so that people can understand and so she doesn’t pull her hair or anything and behind the scenes for a man to actually be able to love the woman and not lust after her because after a month both will make the decision and if she declines then she is free to go because she’s a free woman but muslims and athiests will also try to point out that it’s a child by mentioning Numbers 31:18 when that has to do with a different context and the word used there is not the same used in both verses one is for young women and other is women who are older and then those young women are raised as daughters among the land and taken care of and not the misreading of the text where they take them to defile because theyre too young and that’s something also prohibited in the law of moses as well
