I Was Wrong! Windows Phone App Store Review FOLLOW UP

A lot of people commented and got in contact with me following my Windows Store App Review video saying I got it wrong. You were right! Android has Google Maps and Chrome. Windows has Here and Edge. A direct like-for-like comparison isn’t a good indicator about the state of the app store – the same way that saying the Android store is rubbish because it doesn’t have Apple Pages or Apple Maps.

Thank you for watching. if you enjoy my videos please do like & subscribe! :)

Really nice follow up. You are right, Windows phone don't have everything, but, unless a person needs something specific, I think it has everything most people need.

Hey

good for you admitting your mistakes

you had the correct principal, Windows needs a lot of work in application store

but you perhaps used the wrong examples to show that

have a great day, massive respect for the update and admitting your error

Nice for the follow up and realisation that it is not always clear cut.

The maps thing is a great example in that if Apple had their map solution at iPhone launch then Google maps would not have had the prime place or possibly any place on iPhone.

I am a long term Droid user that switched to a 950 in the new year and have to say that day to day I prefer the Windows Phone experience.

There is also the one huge problem with Android that forced me to leave that infrastructure in the first place. With Android you either buy a Nexus device or you never get OS bug fixes or patches. All 3rd party manufacturers are hopeless releasing updates and it leaves all the users at huge risk. You are left with a device on old OS with all the huge security holes that are found like gaping wounds waiting to be exploited.

Thanks for correcting! yeah, microsoft store has a big gap, but they are bringing to the store the most important apps and games with the "universal apps for windows 10" for PCs, tablets and phones

Thanks for the honest follow up. Yes, it's missing a lot of apps, but there are a lot of really good alternatives. Hopefully they catch up.. one day.. LOL

I love the OneDrive and OneNote integration. Office Lens also rocks.

I admit, I love my iPhone and my Nexus BUT...my 640 XL has fantastic battery life and HERE Maps works flawlessly for me. I can't completely switch to Windows' mobile environment, but it's not completely destitute. Great video and I'm glad you made that clarification.

I have been a windows phone user for the past 4 years and honestly the only app that I wish we had is snapchat. All of the other apps that aren't available have good 3rd party versions. Although the lack of a snapchat app is no fault of Microsofts. It's just Snapchat being a bunch of bastards.

It's alright, no hates were given. Being a loyal windowsphone user I'm open-minded when listening to other peoples' reviews and you have made your point perfectly without rudely dissing it. Thank you for that ^▽^

Yep the picture is a lot more complex than "not having Google Maps".

The problems I came across were that even where official apps exist it was often the case that not all features were supported and they were not updated. Many banks dont have official apps all kinds ot things from travel apps to parking meter apps are just nowhere to be seen. Too often a business says 'download our app' and there is only an IOS or Android version.

Direct comparisons are not so useful sometimes.

Here Maps is the best offline Maps.

I'm a Lumia 950 owner in a house of iPhone fans. I might get paid out on for not having apps like snap chat, but when I paused my stepsons Xbox in his bedroom he was watching movies on with my Lumia so I could steal some bandwidth to watch Netflix on the xbox in the lounge room. it shocked him I could do that and I got to have a little giggle to my self.

Hey Tech Chap!

I just commented on the last video (my apologies I saw these videos late) I happen to be an MS fan boy, from Windows Desktop to Surface to Lumia to Xbox you name it Sir.

Firstly, I highly appreciate you came back and made another assessment in regards to the comments prior (you sir have earned a Subscription and a like [ plenty of likes to come])

We are also missing this big Social App called: SnapChat. Which is a bummer, every other person I know converses or shares their piece of life through there.

We were for sure missing Audio on WhatsApp, a lot of bugs on Facebook. Being a LUMIA PHONE - Microsoft - have terrible skype; because MS happens to be a service and Apple and Android have a larger market for such a service therefore, the focus is there.

As much as I want to defend the dying Windows Phones (WP) I admit we have an exponential gap with its competitors. Hopefully - like REALLY HOPEFULLY lol - after W10M comes out, and with that the hopeful Surface Phones, perhaps we will see some increase in Apps.

Although lately some devs have been complaining that their apps just don't show on search, irconically WP is a Bing and Cortana utilizer. They can make the bloody Store search for apps. But MS says they took the apps out as they lack quality. Whatever.

Anyways I'm just blabbering about here. I'll be keeping a look out for your videos! Keep up the good work!! C

Cheers! :D

My biggest gripe which might be the biggest reason why I leave windows phone is that every single product that's coming out that needs some for of communication with your phone are only available to ios and android. Not to mention the kindle we have is generation 8. That means a lot of the newer books are not even compatible with the software. But found Kobo which is a great replacement to kindle.

I agree that the review might have been a little simplistic but overall, you're correct that the Windows Phone App Store is a very distance 3rd to the iOS and Android stores. If you include the Amazon App Store, it may even be 4th.
As an OS, I prefer the Windows Phone approach to either iOS or Android. I think that the hardware is solid if a little uninspired and with minimal choice. I have the Lumina 640 LTE. I also have the Nexus 5x. While my heart is with Windows Phone, my head keeps on taking me back to the Nexus and it's my daily driver.
One comment about Here maps. I haven't found its public transit directions to be as good as Google Maps; in terms of giving different routes, times, etc.
