Hi Margaret, Thank you for your postings. I too taught Taiji to seniors for fall prevention along with the Matter of Balance Program. I see too many seniors and elderly people look down at each step while walking. I agree with you and have taught that when the eyes and the head drops down to look at a step or to use the cellphone, the shoulders roll forward and there is a forward lean. Then, they start ball walking, walking on the balls of their feet or shuffling. Thus, there is an increased risk of a dangerous forward trip fall and injury to face, head, hands and wrists. To counter this, I also instruct seniors in the taiji walk, to scanning the sidewalk for hazards using their eyes, using their peripheral vision which is up and down too, to place their heels down gently first and roll into the ball and into the toes, finishing with a gentle heel thrust, walking with head up, mindfully and to of course, to slow down. This will also help lessen back pain, knee pain and hip pain.

I discovered your video about dowager's hump and now I am watching a bunch of your videos. I imagine that dowager's hump will be more prominent in the future because people walk looking at their phones so much and poor posture using the computer. I am pretty sure using poor posture at the computer led to my dowager's hump. Thank goodness it is reversible with exercises. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge to make people healthier!

I have balance issues due to a condition and walk daily on a treadmill. I do rest my arms on the handles due to my balance. I am wondering if my walks are still beneficial for my bones. I do 2.5 to three 20 minute miles a day. Thank you for the video.

Thank you! I'm a Nordic pole walker. I see so many out walking incorrectly if, or when they do go outside. They reject my suggestion to try poling, so I sent them your video.

I am an artist and spend a lot of time looking down at my work either sitting or standing. Is there a correct way to do this? I am 71 years old and do have bone loss, mainly in my hips.
