My aunts were old school Hippie lesbians. They told me over and over again how they didn't agree with the gay community nowadays, And they hated pride parades. They live their life, they didn't make a big show of it, but they also didn't hide it.
Relationships are meant for the home not to show off to everybody else.

The hyper sexualization is one of the big reasons why I never accepted the label of "lgbt" as a gay man. It comes with so much that I don't want any part of.
Another reason is everything about me gets assumed once someone knows. My politics, my morals, my proclivities. I hate it. I'm just me. I'm not the lgbt.

Man, when I was growing up it was "I am not a label! Don't label me!" Now it's "You will respect my label!" When I was growing up, it was "Of course boys can play with dolls and girls can play with toy trucks!" Now it's, "Oh you're a boy who likes to play with dolls, must mean you're a girl" I'm only 40. I don't understand how we flipped so absolutely in such a relatively short time...

The double mastectomy talk was so uncomfortable. When I was going through puberty, I wanted to have a flat chest so I could play soccer shirtless. I told my mom all the time "I wish I was a boy". She encouraged me to love myself as I was (which I still wasn't able to do until well into adulthood). I can't imagine how my life would have been if a double mastectomy was the recommended course of action for me. I would have missed everything that matters to me as an adult. I want to have children. I want to breastfeed if I'm physically able to. I know that's just my feeling about it, but you don't even know yourself until you're older.

When it’s a person who had issues with transitioning, they want to say it’s a small group. When it’s grown men being naked in the streets, they want to say it’s a small group. “That’s not happening often.” “That’s anecdotal.” But when it’s intersex people that are actually a tiny group of people…it’s “how can you tell them they don’t exist?” It’s just mind blowing.

Detransitioning used to be rare. Likely because it used to be harder for ADULTS to transition. Now that children have entered the equation, the numbers are going up. There's a correlation. As more kids transition, more will detransition.

If a 13-year-old wants to get married, people are shocked because they're clearly not mature enough; if they want a top surgery, they're affirmed all the way to the operating room.

Growing up I was constantly made fun of for my large ears. Called dumbo. My doctors discussed with me and my parents an elective surgery to remove cartilage from behind my ears so they wouldn't stick out as much. I hated being made fun of, I wanted the surgery. My parents said if you want this still as an adult, we will help you pay for it - but it's likely this is just an awkward phase that you will grow into.

As an adult, nobody has ever said my ears were too large. I don't any longer feel my ears are too large.

I had a friend sever ties with me recently, because(she was a newer friend) she realized how I felt about transitioning minors, and she had gotten her daughter a mastectomy at 14, and she was also on HRT. She said she couldn’t in good conscious have me around her child. I told her that it’s unimaginable to me, that she would do that to her daughter, and she became infuriated— I remained calm, while I listen to her spout off all the talking points that crazy white moms speak to you when they’re abusing their children like this, before I spoke.


I said, “ what you’ve done to your daughter is abusive to me. You stole womanhood from her. She’ll never have a chance now. Being a woman is so magical and growing into womanhood is some thing you stole from her. She won’t know what it’s like to feel like a woman. You took the choice away from her, I had a step child go through this, and she didn’t talk to me the entirety of her teenage years, but now that she’s 21 she’s so thankful that she’ll be able to breast-feed her baby. She understands now why we did what we did. But you, you took that away from your daughter, and she will never get the opportunity to have that. You stole her future “.

I thought her head was going to explode, but she had absolutely nothing to say back to me.

to express my HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT in barrett as a person would be an understatement. i thought he was someone who would fight for children's safety and innocence but i see that i was proven wrong. wow what a let down.
