Hell, I been converting my steel mtbs to drop bar for years. My favorite is the Reynolds 853 Kona Explosif with 650b wheels drop bar set-up. I'm working on converting a steel Columbus frame Marin Pine Mountain to a monstercross/gravel bike

started with 40mm now on 50mm, best upgrade you can make for confort and I go as fast as I used with the 40mm

26mm slicks for me, perfect for mixed tarmac and forestry roads. Latex inner tubes and about 55 psi makes them smooth and fast.

Let’s go for 75mm slicks 😂. Seriously, I recently tried 30mm in place of my 40s on my mostly road Krypton Pro. They won’t be staying on for long following complaints by the ischial tuberosity, acronium joint and wrist departments. Speed being an irrelevant consideration now.

And here I am, reducing from 45mm to 38mm on the gravel bike this year, and riding faster than before... 🤷‍♂️

I feel that if I need any wider, I should be using my MTB.

Do you not find the handling a bit less grippy at 50mm? I did …. Felt that I couldn’t press the loose corners as hard with bigger tyres. Maybe geometry of my bike or the type of tyres.
