I 100% agree. A great example of this would be Steve Kerr & Jason Kidd. Both started their coaching careers around the same time (I think Kidd started a year earlier than Kerr) Kerr was a role player on winning teams & Kidd was a multi time all star on majority of the teams he's been on. As of right now, Kerr as 4 championships as a Head Coach & Kidd only has one as an assistant coach. Kerr has more championships both as a player and coach combined than Jason Kidd has both as a player and both combined.

Just hearing how JJ talks Basketball, I wouldn't be shocked to see him as a coach. He seems more of one than Nash.

Gil and jj were two of my fav players growing up, gil was tearing up dudes in dc around the time jj was tearing dudes up at Duke, miss those times. I forgot they even played together lol, but in orlando gil was a shell of his former self and jj didn’t find his place in the nba yet.

Every coach knows basketball at the pro level, it’s what type of “culture” can be created is what’s going to be the determining factor.

I ain’t saying JJ is Steve Nash, but there’s something to be said for having some coaching experience.

Nah Steven A boutta complain about another white head coach🤣🤣🤣 "IM NOT SAYING JJ WOULDN'T MAKE A GREAT COACH BUT WHAT I AM SAYING IS THAT *insert black coach here" deserves the opportunity

When they say give players an opportunity they have always had an opportunity. The final 3 coaches were not players in the NBA, not Mazula, Malone, or Spolestra….but the top winners Phil Jackson and Pat Riley were former journeyman players

Several former players have gotten a shot without working their way up; Vinny del negro, Kerr, Nash, Kidd and more. Experience is experience, it doesn’t always go well but clearly some belong without having to go up the ladder.

Not agaisnt with JJ but i think sometimes its better if you have experience first.

He needs to be the Charlotte Hornets head coach.

Fact is most retired role players are more successful being a head coach than those ex allstar players
